I will be adding LEDs strips for aesthetics , but my concern right now is getting the system to run correctly, so I can begin OC my CPU



My concern is my CPU temps, I'm rocking the NZXT X62 aio but I'm not comfortable with these readings, 61.0c for idle is pretty high . The readings are coming from my Mobo Bios. I was googling for an answers and I read on a couple of forums that the Ryzen 7 "X" chips manipulate the temperature readings by 20-25c. If that is correct, idle at 61.0c-20c = Is actually at 41.0c, I will be downloading Ryzen Master keep monitoring my temps. I will also be looking into replacing my Thermal Paste for more piece of mind.

Any input would be appreciated.****

My temps on Ryzen Master Fluctuate from 35.0c-54.0c depending on my peak speed, which ranges from 2.20ghz-3.9ghz.

Also, I recently bought my EVGA GeForce 1080 Ti FTW3 from B&H (Exellent Customer Support) like 6 days ago. I was on /PCBuildSales and stumbled into a post that NVIDIA is bundling GPU cards with Destiny 2, I contacted B&H live support over the Destiny 2 offer, and indeed they will honor the free download. I'm so stocked! So my 1080 Ti actually came out to $690 (accounting $60 game included + discounts I received)

Looking @ upgrading my system some what starting with the RAM & curious what the folks here that are more educated then me would suggest. I'm using G.Skill Ripjaw X-Series 8GB 1600mhz CL9. Mostly because I got it for next to nothing on Black Friday back in like 2013, hah.

My understanding is CL11 for example would be ever so slightly slower, but consume less power. Speed wise, wouldn't even be noticeable. MOBO wise, I'm still using the Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 I also got back in 2013 which is limited to 1866mhz or 2000mhz OC.

So is it even worth it @ this point to upgrade the RAM or wait until I upgrade the entire system? Or should I get 16GB @ 2400mhz for example & just let the MOBO downgrade the mhz etc. That way I could re-use the sticks on a new system down the road?

Anything less than 300 depending on the make is around what they go for here.
With the latest 10XX series from nVidia, their pricing has really improved I think. The 1080 Ti is sooo much card for the price, compared to like a Titan X that I bought before.

I'm really excited to see what ThreadRipper brings to the table. I'm still rocking an LGA1366 setup with an overclocked 6 core Xeon because it still tears through modern games.

Vega seems promising too, have been thinking about getting another 980Ti to run SLi, but AMD really seems to be stepping up their game and I wouldn't mind repping for the red team again. I think my old 7970 was one of my favorite cards to date...

funny thing is... i'm rocking the red/amd wallpaper and my current setup has zero AMD!

amd fault rx vega was a no show and it delayed my amd build.

Majority of the system is from 2013. 500GB was originally the main drive with the 1TB being storage. Added the SSD in 2016 & left the 500GB in as extra storage. Also switched to the Deepcool case & added the Deepcool cooler in 2016. Case itself is pretty decent, filters work great to keep the dust out. Cooler wise, idle @ 12C. Gaming on high-ultra usually stays under 50C. So price vs performance, I'm happy.

Thinking Ram & PSU are the weak points now. I'd also like to ditch the 1080 monitor for a 1440 or 4K. Pretty sure the R9 290 will handle 1440 but I'd need a 2nd one for 4k @ which point I'd definitely need a bigger PSU.

r5 1600 with mobo and ddr4 if you want to stay AMD


If you want intel I5/i7 7K with mobo and ddr4








You could also source a used 4690K with a z97 mobo that way you can keep ram.

Initial thought was to overclock the 8320 from 3.5 to 4 how the 8250 is done etc... Since they are technically the same chip. I just never did it. At this point, I'm only playing Fallout 4. On ultra. And have no issues. So it never dawned on me that the CPU was a problem. Since I don't have any temperature issues & also thought about switching the cooler from a 120 to a 240 figured I'd be okay overclocking further toward 4.3 etc...

Only hesitation with staying AMD & switching to an R5 is temperature reports so far with them running so hot.

Im a fan of multiple gpu mostly because crossfire/sli looks baller in a case
