I was planning to do a Sr swap into my S14.  Then it occured to me if I could use the KA and swap it into a real truck.  It would be so nice to have a extra truck!! haha

Would it be possible to swap into a old Datsun truck or sumtn where I could get the frame of the truck for cheap?

Has anyone ever tried this??? ....Wow an extra truck...huh <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

he, he! so some is crazy enough to put a S13 motor in a truck!

Finding a truck with a blown engine is going to be as easy as finding a 240 with a blown engine....

So Maeda, you're looking for an engine?

i got a 90 hardbody with a SOHC KA in it and im going to put the DOHC in it. I figueres since a SR can fit in a truck so can a DOHC KA. Basically the same.

Most likely if you do this, you will be dissapointed. The ka powered truck will probably be faster than your newly swapped car. Lame post btw ka24de is (internal design wise) better than sr. That is, if you know enough about valvetrain geometry.

it's not cheap, but I went with my friend when he bought his Xterra, and low and behold, the lowliest engine in the Xterra line is the KA24DE! I was shocked they were still using them!

Yeah, they are also in the frontiers....but the KA24DE won't be in production long. When the new Frontier and Xterra drop, the base engine will be a QR25DE(kick ass engine....100mm stroke baby with 175hp baby!)

the KA is actually still in production in the frontier. This is it's last year though. For us KA people, it just means many KAs for many more years.

RTR has the QR25 making 250+ hp..... ..hmmm....

Ill be swapping out my KA24DE soon. My dad has an '85 nissan pickup just sitting there, so we're going to try to drop in the KA in the pickup. If all goes well, we'll have a pickup with a KA24DE and another pickup with a KA24E it's nothing too important so if it doesn't work out or seems to be too big of a hassle to drop in then no biggie.

ka's put down slightly less than a qr25, my friends spec-v sentra no parts could be beat by my 240 with intake and exhaust, they only put down about 145-155ish, most ka's 135-45.......fly wheel hp from the manufacturerers is climbing so high, makes a big let down for every one.......cough cough rx8

There are some differences between the 240sx and Hardbody/Frontier KA24DE's... The truck engine has a different oil pan (to clear the swaybar and steering rack on the truck) and the pickup tube for the oil pump is in a different location. Also, the crank and block are about 1/2" shorter on the truck engines. The distributor is shaft driven off of the crankshaft instead of the camshaft like on the 240sx KA engine. Also, the intake manifold on the car engine is different. The truck engine has the funky looking TB on top with a filter above it. The car KA has the front mounted TB. If you get yourself a truck block KA engine, bolt your 240sx KA head onto it, and use the 240sx intake manifold.. you will be in business. It will bolt right in, and you can use the Datsun tranny with it.

What year frontier did you have? My frontier had the distrib driven off of the cam. and the intake manifold is different with a upwards facing throttle body.
Also the pans i think may be different, but i was thinking of the sr at the time. the sr will clear the cross member.

thanks

I think the frontier switched over to the newer style KA head and distributor setup in '98. But the truck block still is shorter along with the crank. The oil pans are still different as well.

shorter block... any advantages? I know you can use the Frontier truck mounts to sit the engine lower in the 240 (better handling), but the block, and advantages to a shorter block?
