248/248 cam swap question
alright so i just had an idea and i want to check to make sure i'm not mistaken with my calculations. i have a set of '92 cams and a set of '94 cams. from other threads, i've been informed that the '94 exhaust cams are advanced 4 degrees compared to the '91-'93 cams. given this, couldn't i just use the '92 exh. cam in the exhaust cam position and the '94 exh. cam in the intake position? since the '94 cam has an additional 4 degrees of advance, wouldn't that take care of the issue of the intake cams opening .7 degrees before TDC? instead it would open 3.3 degrees after TDC. according to the cam redrill writeup, it's recommended to redrill the gears with either a 2.5 or 5 degree advance. given this, wouldn't i be right in the middle of those two numbers, without having to redrill my gear(i also wouldn't have to get another set of '91-'93 cams)?

Late 93-98 came are all 232/232. Only the 91-early 93s are the 240/248 degree, so your 94 cam is useless if you're looking for more duration.

according to others, that's not correct.
1) ’91-’93 240SX (S13) - Note: '94 exh specs are slightly different intake cam = 240 deg duration with a 1.6699”-1.6774” lobe height (intake opens 1 deg after TDC & closes 61 deg after BDC) exhaust cam = 248 deg duration with a 1.6699”-1.6931” lobe height (exhaust opens 64 deg before BDC & closes 4 deg after TDC) 2) '94 240SX (S13) intake cam = 240 deg duration with a 1.6699”-1.6774” lobe height (intake opens 1 deg after TDC & closes 61 deg after BDC) exhaust cam = 248 deg duration with a 1.6699”-1.6931” lobe height (exhaust opens 60 deg before BDC & closes 8 deg after TDC) 3) ’95-’98 240SX (S14) intake cam = 232 deg duration with a 1.6699”-1.6774” lobe height (intake opens 1 deg after TDC & closes 53 deg after BDC) exhaust cam = 232 deg duration with a 1.6699”-1.6774” lobe height (exhaust opens 48 deg before BDC & closes 4 deg after TDC) this is a really informative thread. forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/169323 |

i would make shure about that info.
because 94 dohc come with no secondary butterfly sometimes. that is why they use the 232 232 setup. like in the s14.

Nothing on NICO is informative unless you want to know how to spin your tires with the ebrake on in your dad's Monte Carlo.
Any DOHC KA with the SCVs fitted used the 240/248 cams, whether the FSM or other manuals state differently. The change over in mid 93 to eliminate the SCVs also warranted the 232/232 cams for more 'midrange' power. Although on a graph there's very little gain anywhere, the SCVs served the purpose that the milder cams do. I've taken apart literally dozens of KAs from all years and spec'd them all as I did, it's not rocket science. SCVs = 240/248 no SCVs = 232/232
