I would say clip the shock towers out of R32 or 33 and weld them in place of the S14 shock towers. At least then you won't have to have custom coil overs etc. You can't deny the badassness of seeing axles in the front of an S chassis

Don't need custom coilovers as the Maxima's mount up exactly the same. Finished my 300z lsd swap into my 92 240, and manual seat belt conversion and tomorrow night I am working on its dash....

Night after that I will pull the 240 front knuckles and mount the Maxima's to give everyone an idea of what I am going for. If the spindle count is the same then I am GOOD TO GO! Any one know the counts?????

Working on getting a R33 crossmember now.......

full-race has a complete AWD kit for the S14. not sure on the price, you have to call. figured its another option for you, though.

I hadn't seen that. Called them again. $5k. Asked if they would break the kit up as I am not doing the skyline suspension bits. He said he would ask and get back to me. My R33 xmember fell through it was for a 2wd ;-(

I would venture to guess that this will be achieved the same way it is in the GT-R's, incorporating it into the oil pan somehow.

At first i was really happy for this thread, something different then the normal st swap.

But the i realized you just started this build, something like this should not be posted till its almost done. I feel like your getting ahead of yourself, but i hope you prove me wrong and finish this!

have you ever owned a GTR or a GTS4 to understand exactly how the AWD works?

How are you going to run the front diff, and axles? The RB26 and GTS4 RB20 had cast aluminum pans, but for a inline 6... The VH was never offered in AWD...


Leaves me scratching my head as to how you're going to run the front driveshaft to a diff, through the pan, and into the front half shafts...

That's not even counting getting the ATESSA-ETS to work properly, that's a whole 'nother animal, as GTR's and GTS4's are in a sense, 2wd, and the ATESSA-ETS computer controls front wheel bias based on G load/slip. HKS Kansai made a AWD controller, but when left on max, the weak front diff would grenade.

If you somehow graft the 26/GTS4 oil pan, and need a touger diff, don't pay out the ass for a skyline diff, the LSD's used in the Honda H22 drop right in, and can be had for around $400.

Don't doubt this man, he may try to come off as "not knowing what he is doing" and lost. But in reality he knows. He has a AWD Durango with a Viper V10 in it that is supercharged with full Viper interior as in 4 seats 2 in front, 2 in back.

I'm pulling for ya bro, I think you can have this finished by the end of the year, if you stop spending money on the SR coupe you bought from me. Haha.

Not doubting him, but grafting a inline 6's computer controlled AWD system on to a V8 that was never offered in AWD, will be difficult, but retarded awesome in the end none the less.

I can't wait till you make some more progress on this build, what generation maxima do you plan on getting knuckles from? Do the hubs have the same spline count as the skyline half shafts?

I agree I might have jumped the gun on posting this build but having multiple opinions/ideas may shed new light on issues I have ran into or not thought of. Things will start moving a lot quicker once I get the 92 sr20 car reliable so my son can start learning to drive the 91 hatch. Got laid off from one of my three jobs so I have more time but less money. :-(

I have 94 maxima spindles. Being the pair cost $46 it is a low cost alternative and cheap for testing. Spindle count will determine if I go custom. I had GTR axles on their way but ??????



I haven't located a GTR crossmember yet so currently the s14 one is holding the v-8 up as I measure clearances and decide what I will be cutting and moving. Once I have all these numbers I will pull the v8 out and start the front diff modification. Below is my current tight spot. If I could move this back just a little more then the body mounts for the tranny crossmember will not have to be cut and the shifter will line up almost perfectly to the stock location. I have started pulling the interior but life and sr20's have happened.



At first I was planning on modifying the GTR oilpan to replace the VH45's then looking at how shallow the factory VH pan is I am leaning more towards chopping up the GTR pan and leaving the VH pan in place. The RB pan rails are wider than the VH45's so it can fit around it. I do have to "thread the needle" as the front output shaft has to go between the starter and the slave cylinder. That ultimately decides where the front diff will be located.

Controlling the AWD. My current plan is to use a HICAS pump to provide the 300psi to engage the power split. Then using a car PC and intertia sensors vary the split. Most basic can be a simple on/off switch.
