Looking for the 240 crowd in OC / IE

What's up SouthWestern US Zilvians, just want to say what's up and try to pinpoint some locals I might be able to learn from in the near future.

My name is Jeremy, and I bought my first "real" project just about a year ago. Her name is Chloe, and she is a 1995 Zenki, with one previous owner and a ton of miles. So far I had cleaned her up, got rid of some of her "demons" - timing chain rattle, new plugs, new fuel filter, leaky valve cover gasket, etc. Recently, I moved to a spot with a decent sized garage and close to my work (an offroad suspension company based out of Riverside, CA.). At this point, I decided to stretch my budget to make Chloe less of a "street" project and more of a race project. I come from a pretty extensive background of Pro-Am level motocross racing, and just can't get rid of the competition bug.

Anyway, I began to build up a parts supply as I also began to tear my S14 apart for a proper "freshening up". The motor is ready to be pulled (everything taken apart and disconnected minus the motor mounts), the AC has been removed, airbags disconnected and removed, ABS has been removed in favor of a non-ABS setup with Q45 front calipers, a Z32 mc, and a non-ABS booster. I have stockpiled 5 lug hubs waiting for me to swap out, nice new slotted Q Front rotors, slotted s14 rear rotors, StopTech pads for all 4 corners, Megan Track coilovers (which will be heavily modified at my work), a Mishimoto radiator, Mishimoto dual E-fan setup, 17x9 MB Weapons, 235/40R17 Sumitomo's on all corners, an Autopower Race Roll bar, Corbeau clubman seats, an AEM intake, and some other goodies as I go on.

Here's the situation. As I mentioned before, I come from a moto background, and as I have been moving my way into the automotive world with my 240, I have been considering selling my YZ450. Anyway, I decided to go ride with a good friend of mine on April 7th at a local motocross track. We were having a blast - normal day of riding, feeling good, "stylin' out" in my own opinion. Everything was fine until I hit a jump wrong, and wound up waking up in the hospital. I shortly learned I had broke my back (my l4 and l5), broke 3 ribs, lacerated my spleen, destroyed one of my kidneys, broke my tailbone, broke my shoulder blade, and royally screwed myself up altogether. Recovery has been going well, and I get stronger every day. My support group has been so good to me, and my positivity and confidence is really helping me work my way back into the garage and working on my car. Over the past 4 weeks, I have decided that this is my chance to clean my bike up, sell it, and build this S14 up the RIGHT way so that I can start my into automotive racing properly.

I mentioned the parts I've got together for the build, and I believe I am going to pull the motor and take it to Animal Auto in Ontario, CA for a thorough rebuild. My plan is to autocross in DSP with the fresh rebuilt KA, and after a year or so (once I learn how to drive 110HP to its limits) I plan to turbo the KA. I know what I'm getting into, I know how racing works, and I am looking to meet like-minded individuals who get their kicks on going fast and being successful.

I am just trying to shout out, let people know who I am, what my deal is, and hoping I get to meet some of you guys soon at the track, at a meet, or anywhere else my local 240 guys and gals might be. Moving forward with this project I could use some experience on my side, as I am starting with none. I am mechanically inclined, but my 450's are quite a bit different that the KA24DE and the s-chassis. So far the car has actually been a pleasure to work on, but I know it will not stay that way.

Sorry for the novel, just looking to see who's out there...

Thanks,
Jeremy

I'll check out the 909 thread for sure, thanks. I'm in Riverside, pretty close to Tyler Mall.

My S14 is on jack stands at the moment, as I was about to do 5-lug swap, q45 calipers, rotors, pads, coilover, wheel and tire install right before I had this accident. I'm aiming to have my build done and track-ready by September-October. My Autopower race roll bar just showed up last week, so that's another step closer.

Just got word I'm one week away from being able to ditch the wheelchair...I can't wait to be back wrenching on my baby!

My buddies cousin rebuilds the engines at Animal Auto, the price is extremely worth how detailed.he gets into rebuilding motors.

Wish you a speedy recovery!

Find a direction you want to do with the 240sx. Unlike Motocross, if you're doing SCCA, the 240sx has extremely stiff competition. I was thinking of going KA-T, but it will end up having going either unlimited street modified or forever stuck in CST.

Sorry for the time it took to reply, been enjoying being out of a wheelchair and back on my feet! Gizmo, thanks for the clarification - yeah I plan on driving the car pretty hard and not necessarily drifting, so a nice LSD is my goal down the road rather than just welding the stocker. I am actually getting ready to pull the motor and take it over to Animal Auto, Andrew seems like a stand-up dude and their quality has a reputation for being excellent. The motor is actually ready to be pulled, I just need to build a little more strength in my back so I can hoist it out with some friends.

Yellow, I am keeping the back seat, as per the rules for SCCA D Street Prepared (gotta retain the stock interior). If you just need the hardware I would head down to your local ACE or something and spend the few bucks to get some new stuff...probably a lot easier than trying to source it second-hand. If anything changes and I ditch the back seat I will let you know.

Sharkman, I appreciate it and I'll let you know once things get moving a little better for me. Hope that paint job comes out well!

Carugatti, shoot me a PM with a Facebook link or Instagram, or if you're old fashioned just shoot me your number. Ive seen a couple rattle can black 240's around, I bet I've seen you.

DJ-of-E, I am definitely aware of making sure I line up what it is I want to do and how I build the car. My experience in moto was at a Pro-Am level, and the competition at that "rank" if you will was extremely intense and involved hours and hours of preparation, training, and practice. If there's one thing that I am ready for, and actually excited about, it is competition and the ability to make myself a better driver. I know that my first season of AutoX will probably have me feeling like I can't drive worth sh*t, but I knew that getting into it.

The plan with my car is to have Animal rebuild the KA so that I can run it stock at AutoX events for a season, but I'd like to use high-quality internals and gaskets so that I can go KA-T once I learn how to push the stock motor to its limits. At that point, I may jump to Street Modified or try to compete in RLTA events. That is over a year away at this point, so my plans are not yet laid out. However, I know that if I build the motor RIGHT the first time, I should have no problem going KA-T with a T3 pushing about 9-11 lbs of boost after a season of AutoX with the stock KA.

Anyway....thanks for all the feedback, can't wait to meet some of you guys and get my car back on the ground and running. This weekend I'm planning on doing my 5 lug swap, Q45 front brakes, and installing my new wheels and tires. As long as my back holds up, it should be a fun holiday weekend job!

Thanks guys,
JH

Yeap, I usually trust Steve at Corner3 for those kind of things, even if they're a little more expensive.

I can also vouch for Animal Auto. They stand by their work and its quality work. I took my car over to replace a seized speed sensor on my transmission. They did not overcharge or change the price. They removed my RB25 trans, took care of seized sensor and while they had the case open they replaced a bearing that was damaged. Andrew went out of his way to obtain a bearing from the dealer so I can get the car back at the time they had promised. My car is leak free, speed sensor works, and transmission feels a lot better now. I would recommend anyone to them. As for engine work. Theres alot of happy customers just not everyone has time to post. but their results at the track say alot. i had a buddy take his car to fix a valvetrain noise and its been good ever since
