First Federally legal Kouki R33 GTR done in 10 years

Please move if this is in the wrong section but I thought this was pretty cool. Done by a shop in Florida called Rivsu

"Last night at our 2 year anniversary event we finally unveiled one of the biggest projects we've been working on. For many years the naysayers said it couldn't be done. We gladly accepted the challenge and put all our resources into motion to coordinate something big. 2 long years of hard work finally came to a close as we literally pulled back the curtain on a much anticipated Le Mans edition R33 GT-R imported under VCP-32 and done the right way. This weekend we're proud to present to the industry a fully and federally legal R33 GT-R in the USA. This is 1 of 2 legally imported LM edition GT-R Skylines in the USA with the last one having been imported by MotoRex many years ago. Only 98 of these cars were manufactured by Nissan."

I have a feeling selling everything, including my kidney, house and soul will I only be able to afford me a downpayment. Fed legal status is not cheap and we will sure be paying for the development and work (which I have NO problem with).

As the saying goes, you gotta pay to play

Unless you have vast amount of money to convert the appropriate components required by FMVSS and DOT to be in compliance. it wont be for a while lol.

This document list all the alterations made to comply with FMVSS and DOT.

Not without going through the same process this car had to go through. Which is VERY expensive.

Very nice car. I can see non-GTR R33's as not being very good looking, but a BNR33 looks good to me.

Conversion was done by JK Technologies in Maryland. They've had the capabilities to do the work since Motorex has been around, it's just so expensive you never really see it done.

People talking about it on a Skyline forum:
Quote:
This R33 came in under VCP-32, the ruling that came out of the Motorex incident. Under that ruling 1996-1998 R33s can be imported if a registered importer can perform the required modifications - it has no provision for R34s so those can't come in until they turn 25 years old (or 21 if someone can petition them as a Show or Display car).

They said that the car has OBD2 in it to comply with DOT (1996). I dont know how they could have done that on the stock ECU. I guess its a stand alone OBD system.

I would think that by the time the R33 came out they had some sort of obd/consult provision from the factory.

Not to mention attaining just a compliant airbag. I was 99% positive JK Technologies and/or TRW owns the patent and is greedy with it.

There are a couple of local legal R33's. I encounter them in the city every now and then and I do not feel anything. I guess I am over nerding out about an old 90's Nissan.
Also, one of them was involved in a police chase last year doing 176mph on the highway until his engine blew up. What an unreliable car.
