Someone knowledgeable on turbo rebuild kits?
Hey everyone, I have an AiResearch T04/T04 turbo, and I need to get it rebuilt. Can I use any T04 rebuild kit? I found aiResearch was formerly Garrett "back in the day.." turbo's probably from 1980 but it was run up until last year.
It was previously run on a KA-T setup and my friend said the exhaust is a 56 ar and the compresser is about 60 ar. It's an on-center turbo if that matters. Does anybody have any input on whether the regular Garrett T04 rebuild kits will work, or a good source for me? Here's a crappy cell pic: Last edited by EnnEssEnnKAT; 04-27-2015 at 10:10 AM.. |

I suggest you call ATP Turbo and see what they can do for you. Its difficult to rebuild cause you gotta re-balance the blades if damaged and inspect for tolerances.
Someone correct me if I am wrong

Thanks for your input. I'll contact them and see what they have to say. I don't mind sending the turbo out for a rebuild but shipping's probably expensive on doing that.

You need a new turbo. You cannot rebuild it by yourself, unless you are equipped to dynamically balance something spinning at 100.000rpm - which obviously you are not, as you would not have asked otherwise.
Man up, bin that crap, get something else. |

It's an on center mount turbo though, I was already having difficult finding another like that. If I can't, then I need a new manifold too. Mines already braced and everything..just looking for the stupid rebuild kit or someone who will actually respond to my rebuild requests. I'll send it out, recommend to me some more places.

I'd start taking it apart and look at what the seals look like. Chances are they are generic enough where you can find a kit online somewhere. Check youtube vids for disassembling turbos it's not really that hard, but there are some things you should know like the nut on the compressor wheel having reverse threads, etc. Also, make sure you mark everything beforehand so when you put it back together the balance won't be off too much. You can then send out the rebuilt CHRA to get it balanced.

No I don't think so, I'll look them up thanks! I've been trying to figure out my "model number" but there are no numbers on this thing, or the identifier plate is missing, and the housing only has a patent # on it from what I have seen. I need to look closer or else I'm sunk.

personally i would recommend speaking with them on the phone first, and then just ship them the turbo. I follow them on IG and I've seen them rebuild literally every brand turbo charger out there. tell them Juan sent you!
