i was skeptical at first but read the links i posted. one of those links is a nissan board.

on my title and registration 1 important category is different.

if anybody doesnt believe it, so be it. I have no problem with it. the buyer will get a smog exempt car.

SR thats true...

Yea i read the links... its sounds legit !!! im not doubting you or anything.
But what happens when a cop pulls you over and ask you to pop your hood. Then decide to send you to one of those refery thing to smog your car ??? Can the car still pass then ?? IM pretty sure the cops knows what year the smog exempt is, or what year it ends ... So when you get pulled over do you just show the cop the smog exempt paper, so he doesn't have to send you to a refery and just give you a fixing ticket ??

I have a 240sx with an SR in it... i can do thesame thing like what they said on the links, and have my car smog exempt watever.... but the cops doesnt know that ?? im pretty sure that they know 240's are NOT smog exempt ...!!

HHMmmm.... watever just throwing my opinion out there.. no intent on attacking anyone in here !!! PEACE !! Im just amaze on how that works !!! thats alll....

If you really want an SMOG EXEMPT CARS, GO OLD SCHOOL PEOPLE !!!

O god, please tell me you did not run that beautiful car on propane...
I talked to the guy who smogged this. What he does is convert it to propane for a couple hours gets it smogged as "alternatively fueled" than if you want changes it back to regular gasoline fuel. State of CA says if your car runs on "alternative fuel" than your smog exempt BUT if you cannot prove to a cop there and then on the spot your running propane... as in show him the propane attachment, (NEW GAUGES BECAUSE OLD FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT WORK FOR PROPANE) than your screwed with a capital F... get the picture?

ALSO you need a completly different fuel tank because propane needs to be pressurized differently. EVEN if you did change it back to gasoline why would you run it on propane I would think 86 fanatics would say screw that...

Sorry for flamming you but that is one of the most beautiful 86's I have ever seen and I cant believe you ran a high comp redtop on propane....

maybe he did it before the motor went in? either way, the propane thing does work, and your more than likely going to be able to get away with it as long as you like, in norcal at least, socal....probably not, but socal sucks so who cares..lol

Got my 89 240 smog exempted as well... totally legit. I didn't believe it myself till I called the DMV and confirmed it. To set it straight, just because you're smog exempt, doesn't mean you're CARB exempt - so if you get pulled over you can still get sent to the ref. The smog exemption just keeps you from having to get smogged. There's another way to become CARB exempt as well. Talk to Jay Garrett (hazw8st) at California Registration Solutions, he can hook it up!

What he does is not illegal. He converts it to propane. If the customer wants it to run on gas, he'll convert it to gas. THEN when the customer leaves, HE is doing something illegal. And since he doesn't actually smog it, it's not on him. He is ONLY converting them to and from gas and propane. That's not illegal.

Yeah and swapping in an sr20, running race pipes, changing/adding a turbo, etc. are all illegal as well - lets face it, almost everyone on here that mods their car is breaking some sort of law. He's found a legal loop hole and is exploiting it while he can.

Have you actually looked into propane? It's the equivalent of 100-110 octane fuel, I think that is fine for him. Propane burns much cleaner and has less hydrocarbons - if anything it will extend engine life.

since that everyone is saying that its not smog exempt in the state of cali. all i know that in my state cars have to be at least 20 years old to be smog exempt. this the automotive law over here to be smog exempt. i've seen supra celica's with smog exempt plates over here. but i dont know the law over i might say it might be for a fact smog exempt.

Well, I'm sure if you drive it on the street. You STILL can be pulled over for a modified vehicle. A cop wont know what a LPG vehicle is, and you'll be sent to a ref anyways.
