Hey ya wassup long time no post ..... Neway, I finally found a junkyard around here that has a 96 Infiniti J30 VLSD for $225!!! which is supposed to be a direct swap into my 96 240SX. The only problem is that they only have the chunk (gear assembly) and not the whole rear differential and housing Every swap i've researched online they just unbolt the old differential and jack up the new one into place. I'm wondering can i drop my differential pull the chunk out and use the J30 chunk for a VLSD?? Will it work??? If So would it be insanely difficult??? Thanks

Send a message via AIM to RedSuns
they both share the R200 diffrential caseing but the difference is in the axel bearings.....the J30 will still fit but could cause some problems down the road....only if you plan on putting 150K miles on it......so you don't have to worry....

This really should be done by a competent transmission/differential shop. The differential needs to be preloaded with shims both to even out the clearances and make sure the gears contact each other the right way. It's not easy to DIY.

$225 is really pushing it for just the chunk, because of the labor costs involved, plus you'll still need the LSD output shafts at $150 apiece.

The output shafts r the same on the J30 as on the 240 and if u just change out the chunk then that shouldn't have nething to do with the output shafts. At least that's what i've researched i don't know ne of this first hand just by the swaps that i've seen and researched online. Thanks for the input i guess i will just have to try it and c what happens.

If you buy just the VLSD unit itself, it won't come with any shafts, and the shafts from your stock diff won't be usable with it. The chunk has everything to do with the output shafts.. that's what they fit into when it's mounted in the carrier.

The flange end of the shafts is the same (six bolt), the splined end is not.
