KA HELP! ASAP S13 Ka is stumbling at Idle :(

First, sorry if this has been addressed recently, I havn't logged on for quite awhile...

Problem started on the way to work this morning...noticed it at a stoplight

Basically it's trying to idle correctly (650 rpms) but it's stumbling all around it and the car is shakeing like crazy. After I open the throttle (2500+) the problem virtually disappears. I am noticing a *slight* overall loss of power though. (could be just in my head?)

I've since replaced the plugs, fuel filter, cleaned/recharged the KN filter, and added lucas injector cleaner. Yeah I know not all nessecary, but it all needed to be done regardless.

The timing SHOULD be correct, I timed it about amonth ago...about to go check it though...

The coil, and distributer have been changed, however the plug wires are wearing out - that wouldn't cause an all-off-a-sudden problem though.

I've checked for vacccum leaks, but all my hoses look fine.

Any ideas would be GREATLY appricieated...I completely depend on my car, yes it's drivable, but I hate it when she's sick

Appologies for any typos, my hands are still covered in grime and I'm trying to be as quick as possible.

okay when you at idle when you barely push on the gas does you rpm gauge shutter down for a second then goes up high. if so then its you Throttle Position Sensor.

check if you're running on all 4 cylinders.
turn on the car and let it idle, pop the hood, pull the spark plug wires one by one and see which cylinder doesnt run.

I'm positive I have all four cyls firing...now that I replaced that stuff it's running excellent...minus the idle.

Yeah, I thought about the throttle sensor...any more definite way to determine if that's the problem?

it sounds like a vacuum leak if you have problems at idle but is normal at cruise.

have you cleaned out your MAF and throttle body yet? those are common among 240s to be the cause of rough idle... keep us updated.

could be any number of things.. Vacuum leak, leak in intake (after MAF), dirty AICV, bad injector, timing, improperly set TPS, etc etc.

the ONLY thing I've seen listed so far that I haven't checked is the idle control valve...but magically the problem is gone. Maybe it was the tune-up? ... it's been runnin fine for a few days now, just havn't had time to log on.

Check your wiring harness at the connectors. Check the wiring leading to the fuel injectors AND to the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. Also check the ground wires....the one behind the car battery, along with the one that runs from your engine block above the 02 sensor and your firewall. Idle problems that "magically" appear & disappear usually turn out to be wiring harness / connector problems.
Hope this helps.....good luck!!!

I couldn't agree more!!! also clean the engine and frame ground from the battery. The injector wire harness is wonky, so play around with that as mentioned.
