ORC 409 Super Single...What Sleeve/Carrier???
Ok, so I picked up this used ORC 409 Super single clutch. Also came with new unsprung clutch disk and intermediate plate. I resurfaced the flywheel, and got a TOB to match (67.1mm). I am stuck because I am not sure what carrier/sleeve to use. I have searched google and zilvia and some people say you can use the stock one and others say you MUST use the ORC one. I do not want to try installing it and come to find out the stock one won't work. I would have a guy call Ogura Racing directly, but they are closed for the New Year Holiday (2 weeks). I hear that you can use the Nissan sleeve part # 30501-N1600. Me and another guy who owns a local shop in Okinawa looked through the ORC catalog and cannot determine which one we need. Can anyone that has used this clutch verify?

I have bought these parts over 50 times now..... as most twin and single's from japan dont come with it you can't use stock part # ones.... its a special part # like i said, check my posts.. You need... differnt bearing (differnt taper on the bearing) and differnt bearing carrier ( shorter one)

you may use the stock one for Single plate clutches, at least for ORC 409D. When there are two plates or more you must use an after market throw out bearing. The reason is that the multiple disks makes the overall height of the clutch too large for a stock TOB to work. The ORC TOB from what I understand is a slim version of the OEM TOB.

Slap it on and see if it slips...Beats the hell out of buying a brand new 409D for over $800. As far as the flywheel, just take the cage off and resurface it just like any other fw.

Only thing I wasn't sure of was if the posts just come out of the flywheel and press back in. |

Since we're on the topic. Has anyone bought an overhaul kit for a 409D? Doesn't the overhaul kit not work as well as a new kit since there is no new flywheel? I only see a new pressure plate and clutch disk so wouldn't it slip with an old used flywheel? |

Haha god I feel stupid you're right. So yeah if you take them off and resurface the whole thing you will still have the same standoff height, so the rebuild with new plate and pressure plate would work just as good as a brand new one would. Awesome! |

For the record, I did buy a overhaul kit before. This was back a couple years but it came with new intermediate plate, clutch disk, and bolts. You definitely want to get the flywheel resurface as flat as you can without removing too much material. I had mine redone at a machine shop while I was in Okinawa. Nowadays if you get a used single-plate clutch, just run it as is because everything is already worn together (kinda like brake pads/rotors). I just bought a Used Uras Super Single (which was made by ORC factory/same configuration) and measured the disc at about 4.5mm. I wanted to rebuild it but why spend the extra loot when it's probably GTG. We'll see here soon lol.
