Anyone consider using some sort of engine-riser mounts to lift the unit up a bit? On one hand Im against chaging the ride height of my car, and also dont want to change the center of gravity by raising the engine. On the other hand, I do like the benefits of the Z33 unit and the incresead oil pan ground clearance. Would I be able to beat the trans tunnel into submission with sledge or would I have to cut and weld the tunnel to fit the riser mounts+CD009?

The everything cd009 swap thread.

The area that hangs the lowest isn’t nearest the engine. It needs to be raised at the gearbox mount as well. Problem is you’re already nearly touching the top of the Xmsn tunnel. So that will have to be cut and raised higher and re welded. Then all the exhaust and charge piping needs to be re done too.

Moving things up changes the driveshaft geo and if you are using a bigger aluminum driveshaft may hit the shifter like mine did.

On top of this, idk about you guys but I've got maybe a half an inch between the top of the trans and the tunnel so its not like it would make too much of a difference.

Yea, I got something like that. If I really wanted to correct it, you'd have to cut out the trans tunnel, rasie the engine AND trans, I know we have some +- to the angle of the driveshaft, but to make it worth it, it would have to come up as a whole pretty damn high.

As long as the angle of the input u-joint and the output u-joint are the same then it's fine. Which is why the engine should ideally be raised equally both at the engine mounts and the trans mount, so that it stays "level" and the angles stay uniform.

For people wondering, here's a shot of the cd009 mated to a 1j with collins kit, in a s13

It's a little big.

Does that trans hang below frame rails or is it the angle of the picture?

Quick question...
I’m trying to do a cd009 on a RB26, do I use a RB clutch and flywheel setup or z33? Trying to run a twin clutch setup.

I have a similar setup( collins bolt on with a 2J). That angle makes it look worse than it is. I'm more worried about the oil pan so I'm getting this....

The trans hangs about 2" lower than the frame rails, I'll take a pic that shows it tonight.

It's funny that my oil pan is above the front cross memeber on mine.

I wonder how much material can be shaved off that lowest point of the trans by the tail housing before getting into an oil galley.

I literally came here to ask if anyone else has had the driveshaft hit the shifter. Guess there's my answer... I have an aluminum shaftmasters driveshaft and GKTech shifter. So what's the fix? Change the mounting geometry? Mine just barely rubs, I might grind down the shifter link a little.

I'm using the GKTech crossmember btw and it didn't fit very well. Could be because my SR sits lower than stock? Is there a better option for a crossmember that will position the trans better so the shaft doesn't hit the shifter?

Honestly I think it has to do with whatever yoke is used when they build the driveshaft. I had the GkTech shifter with the aluminum 1 piece shaft that Mazworx supplies with their CD009/SR bellhousing kit, and the driveshaft yoke did not hit the shifter anywhere. I think there's two different size driveshaft yokes that these shops can use and one has a slightly larger diameter or something.

not enough to do anything (its not like the casting is a couple of inches thick, the bottom bolt locations also confirm this). it sounds like the only thing you can do here is raise the engine and trans (if the hood/tunnel will let you do that). not sure what that will do to COG and the other plethora of issues?

Driveshaft hit the weld on the start stop knot on mine, in hindsight i would have made it 3/8 longer. its minute so spacing the shifter up with 1 washer will work for me

Ah, so it's the brass bushing at the bottom of the shifter that hits? I haven't torn mine down yet but I had assumed it was the little L shaped link which can't be spaced up.

I only ask because apparently the CD trans on Joe Haven's coupe has ground through some of that material by now and hasn't yet dumped it's fluid out lol. His car is low as fuck.

Not so much at the firewall, but hella bashing for the tail in the tunnel. The tunnel isn't wide enough. It pinches the trans right about where the reinforcing is for the trans crossmember.

We did the 'ol in out, in out for a while to get it in. There also seems to be an offset to the shifter. The shifter us off center to the passenger side a bit. I can see the same thing in other people's photos.

I spent some time trying to center the shifter before I realized the transmission WAS centered lol

I have the Suspicious Garage 2jz/cd009 driveshaft and Serial Nine shifter and it doesn't hit at all. They state it uses a 3/4 ton chevy yoke which I believe is the 1310 yoke. The other option is a 1350 yoke which is a bit bigger and beefier but may run into clearance issues.

The top of the trans is 1/8" shy of hitting the trans tunnel. It is as high as it can go. I don't know how anyone's is sitting higher?
