Technically no you can't. There's a lot of regulations with changing motors and stuff between manufactures along with vehicle type. For example. An ls1 engine from a Monte Carlo can not be switched into a truck vise versa. But if you switch say an ls1 silverado truck engine into a s10 you can. On top of that you can only swap that year motor and new. Another example a 2002 silverado can accept a 2006 ls1 but not a 2000 ls1(edited for tqstarburst since it will make him feel better) . And for the last info I know it has to be in regulations with all vehicle emissions of the motor it comes out. So your (not your car obviously)1993 silverados have to be in emission regulation with your 2007 motor it came out of.

But yes you can swap the motor in pass smog but will fail the visual. Also a lil tip if you do the Chevy 5.3 is a sr/ka hybrid for Chevy. Cast iron block *ka* (stronger but a lil heavier) you can get ls1 heads and drop right on but its a smaller liter *sr* and big ++++ cheaper

yeah...

step 1.

get your car smogged before doing the "swap" with another OEM motor.
call sikky, get their swap parts.
drive the car with another "OEM" motor for a while.

step 2.
worry about smog later.

in order for you to pass smog/visual check, you have to get all the emission parts to work with the motor swap. do you have to leave them on there? that's up to you.

where the hell do you get a 91 ls1? You know the year they started producing them right? Stop giving the OP false information, and get your shit straight.

Read the statement before the EXAMPLE. Has nothing to do with when ls1 started it had to do with year examples. If it makes you feel better i can edit the years I put and have it be the same statement.

It can legally be done but hasn't that I know of yet. It will be done soon enough though.

So technically you can. Which ever is newer, year of car or year of motor, you must be compliant with the new year's smog requirements. Nothing says a chevy motor out of a CAR can't be installed in a 240. The hard part is stuff like making the stock exhaust mani, or even an aftermarket headers that have CARB love, fit. Evap system/fuel tank is the current stumbling block of choice. And so on... Never mind that you will have to get it ref'd and then you are rolling the dice no matter how compliant with the law you might be.

... and I read nothing to the contrary in that link.
