I just bought my 240sx and it is awsome but it needs a new valve cover gasket, is this normal? Also their is oil around the head gasket (might be caused by leak in valve cover seal).... is it common for valve cover seals or head gaskets to go bad on a 240sx?

After so many miles, it will go bad on any car, not just the 240sx.

normal wear and tear...replaced my valve cover gasket around 135,000 miles b/c of some slight oil seepage.

How much did one cost and did you do it yourself or have it done by some one. If so how much should it be to have it done.

valve cover gasket is pretty simple.. just need few basic tools and a gasket scraper .. but the HEAD gasket is another story.. thats a bitch to do and you need to take off your whole head and if you blew it then you have to have your head resurfaced and its gonna cost you.. i had my headgasket replaced and my head milled for about $700.00 US parts+labor.. i dont think that was a really good price.. but if thats the case then shop around 1st

LanceS13 I have 135,00 miles also. I am going schedule an apointment to have the valve cover seal replaced ( I'm lazy and its only $45 US).  I have not blown the head gasket, it just looks like it could be leaking.  I also want to tune my car.....but cheap.... any suggestions?
