I love the concept, but do yourself a favor and ditch the front sump and

topmount + firewall heater and be awesome like this guy:

Check out other e36/sr20 builds over at

this is the guy that drove in the D1GP a while back i forgot his name.
the fire wall heater is coming out already, and idk how he kept the bottom mount set up without hitting the steering rack, and for the sump im gunna convert to a dry sump set up soon after the car is running.

EDIT i just noticed that his car was RHD so thats why he can have the engine set so far back, sense im LHD I could never achieve that.

that's completely stupid. at what point did you decide to go dry sump. when you made the oil pandering said hmm. meant look good i may as well dry sump it instead of getting the right oil pan. orwas it when you decided this was going to be a 1400hp Sr on stock block....

Since the steering shaft comes out of the firewall at an angle, the further back you move the engine the more clearance you'll gain. Hard to to explain but maybe this picture will help.

Also, don't know if this applies in the case of an e36, but for e30s sr20/ls1 swaps its necessary to run some sort of compact steering shaft to get enough exhaust clearance. Should be possible since there have been a few rb swaps done in lhd e36s.

Edit: Found the pic of an sr20 down pipe clearance on an e30. If e30s with their tiny ass engine bays can make it work it should only be an issue of engine placement in your case. E30s can get away with using the stock pan since their bay is shorter and the crossmember sits further back.

Anyways, good luck with your build.

yea they sell smaller steering shafts, but all the ones i have found are hella expensive. so im just gunna stick to top mount easier to maintain and such.
and the reason i set the motor in the way it is was to set most of the weight over the wheels to have better forward grip, i know people will say it dosent make a difference but it really does with the e36.
yea i have a friend that owns a company that built a rb26 powered e36 and they did some weird stuff to make it work. and thanks for the help and the info and impute i really appreciate it

try looking into a fwd sr20det log manifold it will move the turbo back and probally give you more clearance with the steering rod

i would not put that breather filter where it is.... if you get a lot of oil in there to the point that it starts to drip, you will likely have a fire. my track 180sx had the hose there crack, leak oil and catch fire. run it to a catch can.

and since this is a track car, just slap a 90* elbow on your down pipe and make it an up through-the-hood pipe

yea that downpipe is bad news.... and i see you used a crush bend to make it... whatever works for you i guess. since it is a track build his suggestion ^^^^ about the hood cutout makes sense. and like everything else in your build - its cheap so thats something to consider. good luck.

If you re-do the downpipe, I would recommend finding someone with a Mandrel bending machine to avoid the crushed restriction. Also , It is a drift car dont be afraid to beat the firewall with a big fuckin hammer to make it fit. Other than that the build looks good.

I dont know why you went through all this trouble and work to drop an SR into a Bimmer, just to use an emanage. You would think one had the common sense to use something more advance than a piggyback fuel computer, especially on something this "sophisticated".

I suggest you ditch the emanage and get a ROM tune or a Nistune. You can't control timing with the emanage are you're going to pop that motor.

Other than that, the car looks good minus the hacked up front bumper...
