long story short, degreased engine after i saw white smoke. found leak. how hard is it to change the valve cover gasket? ordering the rtv and gasket kit from frsport. looked in fsm and couldn't find torque speccs for valve cover botls. Under the maintenence and engine sections...

1995-1998 Nissan 240SX KA24DE Valve Cover Gasket Kit

Nissan Permatex Ultra Grey RTV Silicone Liquid Gasket Maker

Replacing the valve cover gasket will not fix white smoke. White smoke is caused by burning coolant- your head gasket is more likely to blame.

Changing the valve cover gasket is about as easy as changing spark plugs.

Torque specs are "good'n'tight" or around 10lbft (guessing)

the smoke is cominhg from the oil thats drippping onto the exhaust shield. forgot to mention that. its in the, faceing the car, far right corner. and guessing isn't a good idea, woud rather know can't risk over torquing. I've searched some said 5-8 other 10+ ft/lb trq

^Try running hot water through the radiator?

Do you have to remove the oil pan in order to replace the timing chain on a KA motor?

It's a really thick/heavy fluid, like when you put too much chocolate mix in a cup of milk and you get that slow-moving puddle at the bottom of the cup

I'll try that though

Sounds like oil got into the coolant system or old coolant started breaking down. Look in to chemical flushes. Valvoline has a deluxe radiator flush kit that comes with a cleaner you add, then idle for a while, then evacuate old fluid, also comes with a water pump lubricant chemical. Just water won't get all the residual out of the crevices.

I'm gonna flush my radiator soon, and when I do that, I'm gonna replace the upper and lower hoses, along with the thermostat. I was wondering if I should get a NISMO thermostat instead of a new OEM one? The car is a daily driver in the spring, summer, and fall. Stored in the winter. The car will be driven hard on the street, and tracked once or twice a month. Thanks for any input.

Well for 1k Powered by Max, just search them on the forum you will find tons of reveiws and info as well as their website. Also for 1k I have heard good things about Fortune Auto but haven't seen any reveiws (although haven't looked). In my opinion to get decent coilovers for under 1k your best bet to go lightly used and pick them up off of someone on zilvia or maybe craigslist.

You probably just burned the bulb out, it's normal. Take the bulb down to the auto store and just replace it. Probably a 194 bulb, but unsure.

Boiling water and some vinegar...flush it through. Booyea.

Why would you ever need to know that, especially considering the drain plug seals on a copper crush washer?

That would be BAD advice. Nismo lower temp thermostat should ONLY be used on a dedicated track car, and even then it's hard to say.

You want thermostat to be in the 175/180 range. This is proper running temperature, and allows the ECU to quit pulling timing to help warm the engine up.

Too cold water = not good.

You'll get better performance from a set of Koni yellows and springs, than anythign under 1200 bucks. If you want to slam it and have it ride terribly, and perform worse, then yes any sub 1200 coilover will be fine (they are all the same junk).

also the bolt next to the oil cap is leaking oozing a little oil as well. which makes me think it's both the valve cover gasket (corner leak) and the spark plug gasket (bolt leak).

sounds right to you guys?

What's the operating temperature of the SE-R Sentra one compared to an OEM S14 one? I know the NISMO one is 62 degrees C, and the OEM S14 one is 76.5 degrees C, according to FRsport.com.

Dope. Thanks man. I'll just get stock, screw it. It's a daily stock KA, so heat shouldn't be too crazy anyway...
