Techno Toy Tuning control arms, tie rod ends, tension rods and BBK for the Z31. Inner fender sprayed so the fenders can be mounted. Then the front bumper which will allow final fitment on the front spoiler. After that, the rest of the paint will go on. Very close!

Looks great! Your body guy really knows what he's doing. Did you ever find out the brand of the undercoating?

Just bought an E38 for an offroad race, Gambler 500, and found your E38/M5 build. Spectacular. Looking forward to this.

Thanks, everyone!!!
Front bumper is on and the final major item is getting proper fitment of the JDM style front spoiler which fit terribly out of the box. Next is the underside getting sprayed all black, final assembly of the car, cut and polish then painting and installing the trim. So close!! |

Wetsanding commences. He said it will be ready to leave in 2 weeks! Then I will have it towed to the place that does XPel clear wrap to have the front bumper, hood, fenders and rockers done then it will go to my best friends house for wiring and the installation of the engine and brand new R34 5 speed transmission. Then back to me for the rest of the reassembly.

Seeing an update on this car is like seeing a notification that Bad Obsession Motorsports has an update on project Binky.
You might have already answered this, but is the work being done at a large collision repair shop or is it a couple of guys that do unique repairs/builds like yours? There are some interesting cars in the background of some of your pics. Either way they do amazing work and the car is beautiful, cannot wait to see it done.

Yeah, just a small shop with 3 guys. No insurance work. He really just wants to do stuff like my project. My goal/dream is to retire early and build cars like this to sell. Hopefully that will happen sooner than later and I have a bunch of friends who are all amazing in individual fields that I'd like to pool together for an all in one custom shop.

I work at a body shop, we are mainly an insurance repair shop. I do minor restorations when I have time on the side. Would love to have the time, wife + 2 kids under 6 + house = no time for big toy projects.

Took the engine, trans and tons of parts to my friends house who is doing the wiring and fabrication to fit the NOS R34 5 speed trans. I ordered a wiring specialties harness, coils, injectors, iat sensor, knock sensors, radium fuel rail and FPR.
Prototype throttle linkage is underway now along with carbon kevlar velocity stacks! |

Should have some solid updates on the Z31 soon but in the meantime, shot my dad's 240z's along with my R30. Missing from the photo is my Z31, his Z32 300zx and his NSX. Was definitely too bright out but it was the only time we had.

Thanks!
Almost ready for undercoat. He found one small pinhole where the subframe mounts to the floor so once that is fixed, the entire underside will be cleaned and coated. The front spoiler will be ready for paint soon. |

You mean the r30? Because I had an r31 too but sold it to buy this r30. I bought this car from Japan mostly as you see but added the Watanabe's and 2 tone. It was similarly built though with extensive modification and amazing attention to detail. I was really nervous buying a car sight unseen from Japan but in the end it was about twice as good as I could have hoped. I basically stole it.

Undercoat is done. Now just finish buffing and paint/install the trim and rubber door/t top seals and she comes home. I would imagine 7-10 days. He also notched the frame rails and welded in some metal to box it in so that the control arms can have full clearance just in case I ever wanted it to almost lay frame. Not that I ever will but I wouldn't ever want to have to go back in and have it done.
