Thumping from vlsd in s13

Hey guys! I'm working to take my semi Haggard s13 hatch back to stock after the previous owner took poor care of her. I've gotten a lot of the problems sorted out, but recently after a bit of hooning my rear differential has been making a thumping sound when I reverse or when I rotate the driveshaft in the reverse direction. The previous owner claimed it had a vlsd, but couldn't definitely say which car it was from. Looking at it, I believe it's one of the later j30 or na z32 diffs, because it has the stock bolt pattern of 3 sets of 2 bolts. When I spin the tires with the car in neutral both rotate in the same direction and they lock up decently under hard acceleration. I've never had a vlsd before, and want to make sure I'm not running it dry of gear oil, but I also don't want to just dump some redline in and hope for the best. Thanks for the help guys

Did some more research on them, and it seems like the lsd itself is a sealed unit inside the diff housing with only the ring and pinion gears actually in the gear oil. The j30 diff needs 80w 90 oil, so I'm going to run and hit o Reilly's for some. I imagine changing it can't be bad, but I still am not convinced that this is my problem
