AC Belt misaligned, wrong compressor? Pics

Bought this '97 s14 and the previous owner told me to have the A/C system professionally drained and refilled - previous owner overfilled it supposedly.

Took it to a shop and they refused to do it, pointing out the misaligned belt. Looks like the AC compressor sits too far forward. Maybe its from a different year 240? Checked the tensioner pulley and everything is tight. Belt lines up perfectly on the crank pulley so if I force it straight on the AC pulley, it will be at a severe angle. Any suggestions?

KA or SR?

If it's got an SR in it, you need Cody Ace AC adapter brackets.

If it's a KA, then yea, prolly the wrong compressor. Google the part number you need & compare it to the one you have.

PO sounds like a douche. Hopefully there isn't a whole bunch of other things he lied to you about.

It's a KA. All the bolts are in the right places which makes me think the compressor is for an s14. Was there a difference between 95-98 models?

I don't know. Maybe someone put an S13 compressor on it? Again, maybe you should get a refurbed compressor and compare it to the one that's on there... If it's different, use it. If same- figure out what's messed up.

I bet it's the wrong compressor.

I think you have a S13 A/C Compressor on your car.
The pulleys are different and sit forward.

Thanks bro. Great pic!

Next question would be, can I just change the pulleys?

Honestly I've never done it but I don't see why not?

but the question is where you going to get jsut the pulley?
Might as well just get another unit...

but if you do find one and want to try I'd say use this:

Well all the bolts line up perfectly on the compressor. Wouldn't that mean it's an s14 part?
From doing some search I know the bracket bolt alignment is different between 13 and 14.

Just because the bracket alignment is different does not mean that the holes won't line up... It means that the brackets are designed for two different compressors

A S14 KA can have the S13 KA compressor and bracket on it, as the main bolting points for the bracket are the same. In regard to the compressor itself though, the s14 are very different than the s13.

S14 compressors have a 'rectangle/square' pattern, where top and bottom form a nice square shape. S13 have an oblong shape.

Hope that helps.

With that said, if anyone needs SR to KA AC help, shoot me a PM

Are you talking about the shape of the bolt pattern?

Well I loosened the tension pulley and adjusted the belt. Now the teeth are lined up but the belt is noticeably mis-aligned.

Questin is, should I get the system recharged now ($120) and risk the belt coming off or try to find an s14 compressor and go thru the ordeal of replacing this obviously wrong one?

Just replace it with the correct one. If it pops off thats $120 bucks down the drain. Drive it around for awhile and see what happens.
