Help installing electric fan controller

I'm trying to install a mishimoto electric fan controller in my s14. its all wired up except for the switched ignition source (yellow wire). in the video mishimoto has for it they want you to tap in to the head units signal wire but i don't have a head unit installed in my car. this is the first time I've ever messed with any electrical system in my car so I'm pretty horrible at this. all i really need to know is when i can tap in to. from what I've read it needs to 12v and not constant. any and all help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

You might not have a head unit, but the wires should still be there. You should be using a multimeter to check which wires close to your controller are switched 12V. Just don't tap into any big ones, like the wires connected to the ignition switch. One of the wires going to the HVAC controls should work fine.

You should still be able to identify things by the wire colour. But you really need to be using a multimeter so that you don't connect to the wrong thing and either damage your electronics or burn the car down.

Get yourself a test light and find the wire that only gets power when you turn the ign on and you will be good to go. Post up a picture of the wiring,I'm sure we can point you in the right direction.

Fan wiring!

Hey guys!

I am so sorry you are having trouble with the wiring install.

You can install it to one of the key hots under the hood, I have mine wired into what is left of the radio harness in my s14.

Just make sure the yellow wire is not connected to a constant power source. The electric fan will run after the vehicle is shut off and
could run down the battery.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

~Sammyy
