The spec r turbo has a divided exhaust housing thing, and is a bit bigger.. Not sure of the exact terminology of the divide between the turbine wheel and the wastegate flapper. The spec r turbo is good to like 320whp, whereas the auto version is only good to around 280, and does not have a divided exhaust side. I bought an s15 turbo and later found out it was from an auto. Still dual ball bearing, still an excellent upgrade, but not a spec r turbo. I got it for a really good deal so I can't complain, but there is a definite difference. The turbo I bought has a great powerband though, and I'm making around 270whp at 16lbs.
