6.1 Hemi SRT-8 6 M/T to 240sx

OK so Ill keep the updates in this post.

Size compared to the LS2.
After comparing the 5.7/6.1 hemi to the LS2 engine the results were surprising. The hemi is 1" thinner then the LS2, the hemi is the same length as the LS2, and the hemi is 3.5" taller mainly due to the oil pan. A custom pan can be fabricated to overcome this or a cowl hood.

The transmission.
The 6 speed transmission can be had for about 1300-1600. They sell aluminum flywheels for $370. Clutches are expensive. The only clutch after a brief search are twin disk and they're starting at around $1300 roughly.

The engine.
The 6.1 specifically is about 4500 for a used one with 60k miles. I'm not sure if the auto and manual engines are the same in terms of sensors but the manual transmissions will bolt up to the auto engine. I found a 6.1 block with a crank for $800. These motors come with a forged steel crank so it can take a beating. I might as well buy the block and build it up from scratch with a total of around 4-5k since ill do the labor myself.

Engine Bay Prep.
Ive never done a swap in a 240 nor do i even own one. I'm an engineering student at ASU so when i get back to my home in NY ill pick a shell up. Im sure that because of the specs it'll sit snug like a lsx motor. I'd take it that since both the LSx series and the gen iii hemis are similar design motors and around the same dimensions that everything you'd have to do to shove a ls in there will need to be done for the hemi.

Buy the toasted engine for dirt cheap and see for yourself. If you do end up doing it, it'll probably be good for spare parts, wiring, etc. Or just take the easy route and use a tape measure.

The motor is too wide/tall to fit in there without serious modification, but it it's something you want/can do by all means take a shot. The reason Lsx's fit is because they are an extremely compact assembly. Their heads are about half as tall as a DOHC head. Take for instance the Coyote motor, that fucker is huge.

These are the dimensions of the hemi. It seems possible. Isn't the s chassis bay 32 or 34 inches wide? Does anyone know the Length. Idc about the height, I'll cut a hole if I have too.

I looked up schematics on ls2 and hemi is about 3 1/4 inches taller -1 inch as wide from the front veiw accouting for oilpan in my opinion if you have the time to invest id say give it a shot

not sure but its def worth a shot if your getting it for that cheap and i think it might may need to mod the oil pan or cross member but its omething different i really dont like these new mopar hemis but its an awesome idea

its not gona be cheap. this swap will be a lot of money. the cheapest aftermarket clutches i can find are twin disk starting at $1300, the heads are $2000, ect. the 6.1 engine i can find for 4500 with 60k. the 5.7 is 3500. if anything i should find a totaled 6 speed challenger and use it as a donor car. this swap is looking crazy expensive. the swap in my accord, I'm on my 3rd engine and almost every part of the engine was bnib from acura/honda ran me about 11k. I'm expecting this to be around that area. I'll have over 750 to the wheels at 20psi when I'm done with it though. I'm playing around with the idea of just buying a used 6.1 block and building the engine from scratch. I'm not even worried about the cost of the swap. I'm more worried about the computer nightmare of getting this car to start, the new gen hemis are all computer.

I've never done a ls swap but i can imagine it'll be a similar endeavor. the the engines only problem is that its a little taller why hasn't anyone actually taken the time to check out the specs? the 6.1 is a damn good motor. hasn't anyone seen those jeep srt8s haha? you get more power then a ls2 for the same price, these engines respond SO WELL to cams and sound better then the lsx series of engines. I'm not knocking the ls series, i work on those all day long and love the crap out of them. any more info on the steps of dropping a ls in a s13/14 chassis would be appreciated so i can start comparing part lists and give myself an idea of how much this will cost. Ill do the labor myself. Ive also heard that the s14 bay is more forgiving for v8 swaps. thanks guys for helping me out. Maybe soon with some support we could have the first srt8 240sx.
