Ok so I have a 91 coupe. Dual cam motor. I took it to get it smog and it would not pass. They told me motor was taking to much gas and it's running to rich. Everything in the car is stock except for suspension, but I can't find the problem. I changed the fuel pressure regulator checked the sparkplugs just make sure nothing was going inside everything checked out fine check compression and they are all good. Also took out the fuel rail and checked if any of the nipples will leak as well nothing. So I'm stuck don't know what else to look for. Car still smells to rich and can smell a bit of gas from the exhaust when it runs. So can someone help me out. Thanks.

running rich means there isnt enough spark
try distributor cap and rotor
mine did smelled like fireworks!! lol
its not that bad anymore
how bout some exhaust leaks?

Wait...whaaaaaaaaaaaat? Running rich means that your AFR is off, meaning you are running too much gas.

Most likely a vacuum leak or a bad MAF. Check for those.

Did you get the smog report? If so, which test(s) did it fail?

Also I would check your knock sensor. Bad knock sensor, causes the car to run rich.
