sr20det, getting fuel and spark but not starting

I just finished doing my swap and got everything ready to start.. the motor is getting both fuel and spark, but no start.. i have checked grounds and checked coilpacks, the only thing i can think of now is 2 little plugs i have left..

the 2 plugs left are on the passenger side, a little grey one and a small maroon or brown one, and im not talking about the large plugs for the fuel pump relay and that stuff..

what are these 2 plugs for ?? and do they have anything to do with me not starting ??

and does anyone have any suggestions ???

i have tried unplugging the MAF, and nothing changed..

i have checked, and triple checked the wiring i did last night, with 3 different wiring diagrams in front of me.. so i wouldnt think thats the problem...

just to add, my ignitor chip is grounded, and each coilpack is grounded...

more than likely that is your cause, so break out your timing light and have a buddy try cranking it a couple times to see where you end up. for it to start you need to be 15 degrees btdc for your cylinder 1 spark.

well you said that you got fuel and spark... air is always there(depending on if you're running and you either get enough or too much), timing just seems to be the only thing that's holding you back. oh yeh... becareful not to flood your engine when working on your timing, it can fuck with a lot of sensors when doing that

check your timing, and triple check it, then do a boost leak test, we just had a car that wouldn't fire up, but it had both fuel and spark and timing was correc. ended up being a few air leaks adding up to the not firing. Throttle body was leaking, two ripped couplers and somthing else wasn't hooked up.

this is actually right... with anybody doing a fresh swap, it's easy to miss tightening down things you wouldn't think twice about. so yeah check your couplings and any cracks in your intake manifold that could result in a lack of air pressure or vacuum

the plug with the larger gauge wires is for the ac fan and the smaller one is for the ac drier.

i put fres 93 octane in it just now, tried again, and nothing...

i checked timing, and at TDC the CAS is pointing straight down, with a very small tilt to the left (or front of motor)

i'm not exactly too sure at this point but i believe that is your problem right there. try to 180 your CAS, then it should fire right up... from there you can adjust it while it's running to get it firing right.

i have been trying to figure out where TDC is on the CAS for the past 20minutes...

anyone have a link.. that can help me..

the best i found was the timing mark on teh cas, inside, on the timing gear should be straight up...

to set it up
bring the motor to tdc, you can take a flashlight and peek through the oil filler cap on the valve cover and see if the intake cam lobe for cylinder 1 is facing towards the intake manifold. line up the mark in the housing with the pin that holds the gear on it, by the divot or yellow paint mark, then push it in.

I had this same problem, and after much work found that my cams were in the right positions but they were not matched with the stroke of the pistons. So I wasn't firing on compression stroke. Double check everything and you should be good.

Try to crank it over by hand to let the fuel dry out of the cylindars. If it is fludded it won't start. Make sure you didn't foul out your plugs as well.

Also if you followed the wiring diagram on say FRSport for the wiring up by the front passenger fuse box, then you should be straight. The fact that you have fuel tells me you wired that part right. Maybe you forgot a wire and didn't get the ECU power?

This was my problem, hope this helps.

when I did my swap, I swore up and down to my friends when they asked me if I had the fuel lines backwards that I had them on right, well, I didn't... they were backwards. So, you say you have fuel on the plugs and you are getting spark? The only thing that could stop it is ignition timing. Post a pic of your cam position and the CAS position at TDC. So we all can see how you have it set up.
