Speedo not working

Issue: Speedo isn't working

The car is a 1996 S14, the engine is KA24DE-T running S13 ECU (enthalpy). Trans is out of an s13 but the speed sensor is from S14.

Back story:
I did a 5spd swap back in 2005 and disconnected the speedo because it read twice as much (running an s13 trans). Never got a speed sensor so just unplugged it.

Finally wanted to fix my speedo so got an s14 speed sensor. Wired it directly up to the harness plug (green/black wires) that is located behind the relay box. Unfortunately with it wired up, it does not seem to work. According to the seller (acquaintance) of the speed sensor, it was working when removed.

Any ideas?

Have u tried spinning the speedo by had or with a drill and see if it reads on the cluster? Could there be a gear mesh issue?

I have not. But let me make sure I understand correctly. Are you saying having it wired up just like I have it but trying to spin the speed sensor outside of the transmission by hand or a drill?

Unless you know and trust the person you got the sensor from, don't believe it when they say something is known good unless you bench test it yourself. I assume you already know there are s13 and s14 speed sensors, and you just need to use whichever one fits and matches cluster.
