Tire PSI for Drifting

Just wondering what psi everyone runs for drifting at the track. Figured this might help get newbies started on some sort of car set up and possible have some other intermediate drivers try something new and learn something from it.

Please post up tire size, PSI used, and around how much wheel HP you're running. If you're on a stock motor, just say that. I'll start off

Front:
255/35-18
32 psi cold

Rear:
245/40-17
45 psi cold
Around 195 whp.

Might play with the psi a bit more though.

when i was running my SOHC i was running:
front: Falken ziex ze 195/50/15 PSI=32
Rear: Falken ziex ze 205/50/15 PSI=55-60

DOHC:
front: Falken ziex ze 195/50/15 PSI=28-32
Rear: Falken ziex ze 205/50/15 PSI=40

i run 40 to 60 psi
ive run 90 psi
front are usually around 30some no more then 36 hot on AD07

feddies are same because they suck dick
maxxis z1 drift can handle a 50-60psi no problem at all
federal rsr did 90 all day and died of natural causes
re01r run a 40 range
ad07 rear run a 40 range
all tires in rear are in a 245-275/18 sizes.

PSI is very hard to dtermine. Many factors are involved. Track surface, temperature, Car setup, Tire Model, and the level of traction that a particular tire gives throughout the life of the tire.

Always good to start off about 5 psi that what is recommended for the tire, and then play with it throughout the track day.

Mostly its less pressure if you are not gripping well.
More pressure if its gripping too much.

I usually don't check the pressures...I only have a tiny little gauge that sucks and is hard to maneuver between the spokes.

I always carry a tire pressure gauge with relieve valve in the car.

but it DEFINETLY depends on the track, surface (smooth, rough or dirty), track temps and the track speed as well!
I have a mini air compressor that I bring with so I can adjust through the day if needed. (One one the best parts I ever bought for my car!)

Currently on my s14 w/ Federal 595s,

Redtop SR w/ boltons
F/R 215/40/17 35 PSI cold. I usually try to aim for 40-45 hot.

fronts-2055016 Dunlop Z1 star specs at 35pis cold and the take down no lower than 28psi, depends how car feels.

rears- 2055016 GoodYear Eagle F1 at 40psi cold and no lower than 32psi

But it depends on tire I use, when I run Nexen on rear I put at 32psi cold so I still have grip.

don't know front but they were federal ss-595

rear nexen n3000 235-40-17 with 40 lbs of air cold and they spun great.

All day I used like half the tyre and they spun awesomely

I had trouble initiating on balcony using a 3rd gear clutch kick ...

At the beginning of the day I was using some 205/55/16 BST radial tires at like 25-28psi (forgot to put air in after they sat in my garage) and I had no problems initiating but once I switched to my new pair of ss595s, I started having trouble and understeering.

I should've tried upping the tire pressure in the rear to 45+

wow, after reading this thread I guess I'm going to have to step my game up this drift season. I neglect to adjust my tire pressures. Normally I just throw on the tire on the tire machine, and after sealing the bead I put them at 32ish lbs and throw them in the car. Good info

i generally run about 35-40psi hot in the rear no matter the tire being used seems to work the best for me

Stock KA24DE. I usually run a 215/40/17 usually R compound for control. about 30 psi.
Rear, 215/50/16 federal 595ss, nexen 2000/3000 series, nankang (gay tires), and now some falkens. In the rear it is always about 40 psi. federals at 50 cause they grip new.

Run federals backwards for KA, they last all day, and don't grip as much. Tire pressure and grip is the most important in my book! Every time I test a car, that's the first thing I ask.

When I drove jxn's car (S13 SR), it was 55 psi in the rear...i was able to keep that car sliding no matter what, but it was harder to control.

FC'S (chows 250whp) usually have to have bigger tires less psi to grip...they just dont grip very well. for the front...really didn't matter.. about 35 psi so the car doesn't grip more in the front.
