Hey, question.  I have a 1990 240sx (SOHC KA24E 2.4L Engine).  Everyday on startup, I get a really annoying tick noise from the engine area.  I gave it a fresh set of spark plug wires, gave it a oil change and new air filter to start off.

NO CHANGE at all.  ALSO,  I have recently noticed a decline in my acceleration performance as well.  Getting really annoying!

PLEASE someone who has any idea, all info is appreicated!

Jay

Does the tick go away after a couple of seconds? If so, its your timing chain tensioner/guide starting to go. If it only lasts a couple of secs and disappears, its not that bad.

If the sound stays, even after warm up, then you should have a timing chain done. My guess is that its the latter, since you say your car is losing power. Your losing power because of the chain tension being loose. It throws off your timing.

For the time being, put in some thick motor to quiet things down and make sure you warm it up before you drive it.

Thanks alot for the info!  Your actually the second person to suggest thicker motor oil ....  or at least thats what I think your suggesting cuz you only put .. "thick motor".

My friend said 20W-50 cuz of the summer is here and its good with these engines.... may even extend my belt problem for a while!  Im using MOBILE-1 PART SYNTHETIC / DRIVE CLEAN. 10W-30 for now.

Plus, &nbsp;how hard is it to just check the timing belt? &nbsp;What precautions should I know bout it. &nbsp;I just wanna see if the belt needs replacing... or the tensionor/ and or guides. &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;

Im really pissed nissan didnt see this coming. &nbsp;Thanks again for your insight. &nbsp;Oh, and about the car running sluggish, I found 2 leaking injectors. &nbsp;Fixed them already! &nbsp;Thank god.

It's a chain.

It's a ten hour job for the replacement, not an easy task at all. Start by taking the valve cover off and looking to see if the upper guide is missing.
