My day totally sucked. It was my last day at my job--I'm starting a new one (that's giving me an extra $400 over what I was making at the graphics company), and that's great--I'm totally pumped. The bad part is--I'm on my way to my new job to fill out all of my paperwork so I can go to OKC to do my training next week. I'm in horrible bumper-to-bumper traffic on West hwy 51 (about 1/2 mile from the west I-44 exit), and the lady in front of me slams on her brakes, so I slam on mine. I hit a patch of sand (they're doing construction AGAIN and STILL on hwy 51) and lose traction, slamming into the back of this lady's Ford pickup. This then causes her to rear-end the Ford pickup in front of her. I'm totally pissed! It did no damage to the truck that I hit, but the cattle guard on the front of her truck mashed in the tailgate of the other lady's truck pretty good. Luckily, the damage on my car isn't too bad--little dent in the hood, broke my little grille loose (but it still stays in there) and put a nice crease in my front bumper.

I'm so pissed--I just turned 25 on Wednesday (August 1) and notified my insurance company so I can get a refund put towards my next policy. I guess that's not going to happen now. My insurance rates are going to go up, now. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH--why me?!?!?!

Hmm... maybe you can find a way to prove that the accident wasn't your fault?

Poor poor gurl. At least YOU are ok. Wanna know something gud that may come out of this? If you have every wanted to get your front end converted to a newer model or some kit, you can make an arrangment w/ your insurance company. Get a quote on howmuch it will cost to fix your car stock. Then tell the insurance company that you want to upgrade and that you will pay the difference. That way the insurance company has now helped pay for your front end conversion....

I'm sure that its not what you wanted BUT....always try to make gud out of a bad situation.

hope ur insurance doesn't go up too much...(I did that too and it took 6 years for me to goback to gud standing)

p.s. happy birthday......ahhhh to be young again

transient--I wish I could have proved that the accident wasn't my fault--there was a car that almost rear-ended me and I wish she would have. Somehow she made it out of the mess of traffic--there was another accident with the 2 cars behind her. While I was waiting the 45 minutes for the cops to get there, I was trying to think if there was a way to explain that it wasn't my fault, but I couldn't think of one (I just kept looking at the scratches and dents on my car and started crying--I've only made 2 payments on it so far!)

SiLvIa95, I am seriously thinking about that (the 97-98 upgrade). The hood can possibly be popped out, though. Not positive--the dent is where it curves down toward the grille and the headlights didn't get touched (unfortunately). The bumper will need to be replaced and the fenders were not touched either. But my paint is horribly faded to begin with and the clearcoat is chipping off in places, so the entire car may need to be repainted if they can't match the paint (hopefully, they can't match it).

I am very glad that nobody was hurt. The first thing I did was ask everybody if they were OK. I didn't even look at my car until everybody got out and I made sure they weren't hurt. As much as I love my car, I was more concerned about the victims than about anything of mine.

I'm so glad that's the last time I have to drive on that highway! My new job is luckily 2.5 miles from my home (I was driving 15 miles one way to work). Thanks for your support guys. I know it could have been a LOT worse!

That sucks..But I also got in an accident like 1 day before i was going to go on my nice 2 months vacation. I was just driving along on a deserted highway...the semi-country side, and all of a sudden I see this huge deer smash right ontop of my hood, then I seen it's eyes glaring at me as it rolled onto my window.. I was like WTF!! I got out of my car, looking for the deer, not even bothering with the car yet, and I thought it would be infront of my car, but as I looked around my car, I seen that the stupid deer rolled all the way over my car to my trunk. IT CRUSHED MY WHOLE ENTIRE CAR PRETTY MUCH!! I was scared pretty bad, because when the accident was happening, my rear view mirror popped out and almost hit me. Nothing could have pissed me off more than that day. It's not that I wasn't looking at the road, the deer mustve leaped onto the road right when i was side by side with it. (I'm guessing that the deer was inside the trees or something) It really sucked, because I wasn't insured under that car, I was insured under another car. What's funny tho is that a cop jus happened to be right there...from another county, but couldn't do nothing but offer to help. I got lucky! So then I called my step-mom, which is currently insured under it. ( so my insurance is cheaper) and she came to he rescue, and called 911 for me, and took my place. I think my car should be fixed by now though....Thats my war story for ya. I also bought this thing that keeps the deer away from my car so that never...NEVER happens again.

Dude, that sucks! I believe that you were looking at the road and the deer quickly jumped and ran in front of you. I've hit 2 deer that way--fortunately, only 1 incident caused any damage, but it wasn't anything serious. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm glad it didn't come through the windshield. I'm very glad you weren't hurt. That's very scary.

Someone was definitely watching over you that day--with the cop being there to try to help and your step-mom coming to help also. You are very lucky.

It's good that everyone was alright, at and least the damage on your car doesn't sound too major... As far as placing fault (in the eyes of the police/insurance companies), if you hit someone from behind you are basically going to be at fault almost every time, no matter the conditions. In reality, it probably wasn't your fault as the sand was most likely nearly invisible to you at the time. But in the eyes of the law, that doesn't make much of a difference, I'm afraid. I have a feeling they'll just tell you that you were following too close for the conditions (meaning a sandy road). But it's worth a shot to appeal it anyway. Good luck!

That was you!?! Well thanks for holding up traffic. J/k There is always wrecks on that highway. They are saying that it will be done by 2003 now hopefully it will be they only been doing it since '95. I am glad you are alright and nobody was hurt, but that sucks about your car. My car was hit in Wal-Mart parking lot last year(very minor though few dents and chip paint) and the insurence company est. was higher than what it costed to have it fixed so I kept the extra money. If that happens to U maybe you can get the injen intake U want. Hope for the best.

I hurt my car 2 months ago. $2400. The worst part is when its in the shop. But when you get it back, it's great. And listen to Silvia95 on a aftermarket replacement. It would have cost $290 in labor and parts to "fix" my stock intake system. I paid $270 for an Injen intake and CAE and installed it myself. Insurance paid for the stock replacement and labor.

Yeah, Andrew--that was me holding up traffic. There was a nother accident 2 cars behind me--a guy in a Jeep Cherokee ran into a guardrail trying to avoid rear-ending the car in front of him, and wound up getting rear ended. So, on the bridge after the I-44 west exit, there were five wrecked cars! Apparently, some guy got killed in that stretch of hwy earlier this week (supposedly he was doing about 80 when traffic stopped, but he couldn't stop--don't know all the full details, tho). I just wish I could have damaged my car enough to destroy the headlights--my are hazy and I can't get them cleared up, but also can't afford to buy new ones (especially right now w/ a $500 deductible to pay). But, if the headlights were to have gotten damaged, my car probably wouldn't have been drivable.

My car looks funky right now, with a 16" crease across the front of the bumper, a dent a little larger than the size of a quarter on the front of the hood, and the grille gone. The plastic rivets snapped upon impact, so I just pulled the grille out so it wouldn't slide around or fall out. I guess if I pull the last section of my stock intake tube out (the one that rests upon the black radiator support underneath the very front of the hood), I'll have a kinda "free ram air" mod for a while! hehe I wonder if that will do any good?
