Not trying to be a pest...but is there any word? I really need a rack. I would love to get one of these, but if this is not going anywhere I need to know. I can't keep driving my car with the steering rack messed up.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

This isnt to bash anyones idea's, but if you truely de-power a rack, your not removing all seals, and I wouldnt say its bad for the rack. The only wear on the rack itself is the gear, and the gear coupler which connects the gear to the spline.

If you remove the center oil seal on the pinion shaft, you still have 2 others. There is still little to no drag on the shaft because of the remaining seals, and since the center seal/ring is gone there is no pressure in the rack.

Once the rack is depowered and packed with grease, you now have a direct connection to the wheels, there is nothing physically more you can do for more assited power. The only way to lighten the load, and make it easier to turn after you depowered the rack is to make a longer gear ratio [or big fucking steering wheel]. A quicker gear ratio could snap the coupler. So why not just depower the rack? no $300 part is going to make it easier to turn via manual steering.

Any progress on this? I've been fighting my PS pump since day one with this car. Steering has a really inconsistent feel especially when cold. In short I need a manual rack. Also what's the plan for the water pump belt for when the PS pump gets removed?

That doesn't solve the problem of getting rid of the power steering.
The reason this says quick ratio is because manual rack usually have a slower ratio than the powered racks to decrease steering effort. I'd rather have the same lock to lock as my power steering rack without all the power shit clogging my under hood area.

ive already made a writeup. Im still perfectly happy with this setup to this day.

Again, simple physics, a custom rack would only entale longer ratio gearing. Depower the rack with some bad ass grease and call it a day. I even took the extra steps to put some stainless allen bolts to plug the holes.
