Does wheel size play a big role with alignment aswell? I plan on running my 14 Se's, not too sure about tire size, still new to the game.

No problem.
The biggest mistakes that new drifters make are upgrading without knowing how to use what they got.
Can't slide, needs moar powah. And now they can't control it.
Learn to use all you've got to the fullest before upgrading.

First off I'd like to say that im a beginner and by reading this thread I've already learned some techniques and i can't wait to go try out. having said that, I'm currently rocking a J30 diff (doesn't lock as well as it should) megan streets and stock KA. the way I've been kicking out is the same way that i used to when i was still on open diff. same line. slight feint and clutch kick and throttle modulation all the way through until its time to switch back I'm off throttle and until it wants to hook then clutch kick while countersteering. It works most of the time lol.

My question is: How much does the entry line and style change when switching to a welded diff?

This is an issue I see a lot when trying to teach at the tracks out here.

In my personal opinion, when I get into a car with an open diff vs a locked diff, my line changes almost opposite positions as open diff is more difficult to drift longer corners. That is just my opinion however.

And I guess that brings out the issue with the j30s or any vlsd diff.. It locks when it feels like it and one can never be 100% sure that the reaction is gonna be exactly the same in every entry

i have to say as far as drifting goes. my entry technique changed to the new levels of power, speed and handling...

i used to rely on clutch kick at the beginning and now its always with the hand brake

I would rather shim it then put a welded.

For people trying to learn to drift:

Couple degrees of negative camber in front, or a lot if you know how to get a car to turn in on a tiny contact patch, since the camber will help you out at full lock, 0 to -1 or so in the rear, 0 toe all around, caster 6-8 degrees in front, as long as it's even on both sides, it won't make a huge difference when you've got this much. If something isn't working then adjust your driving style, not the car. People always say "s13s tend to understeer" and I've never had that issue with stock suspension and stock open diff, aftermarket coilovers on stock arms, then got an lsd, then aftermarket arms on eyeball alignment, running staggered with 195s or 205s in the front and 215s out back, never messed with the dampers, never removed my sway bars, and have had absolutely no issues with understeer or front end grip. My only guess is people try to manhandle the cars around corners and it doesn't work.

Learn about weight transfer, learn your car. Don't try and force your car to do what you want, learn how the car behaves and use it to your advantage, as far as timing on steering and throttle, so the car moves in it's own natural way and you're just guiding it along. So often I see "driving style" thrown around, when at the end of the day the car is a machine and is subject to physics the same as any other car. If your "driving style" disregards the dynamics of the car's handling, you're going to have trouble regardless of what you're trying to do.

P1 kart circuit, tuscon, AZ

Hey guys I've got some video from an event i drove last weekend, looking for some pointers. Car is stock KA with coils and full isis arms, 17x7 all around with accelera alpha's 215/45/17 front, no name used 205/50/17 in the rear. Alignment is 1/8" toe out up front, zero toe in the rear, -3 camber front, -1 rear, and i rotated my camber plates to give more caster. I forgot to air up my rear tires to 50psi like i normally do, so that was working against me and was fighting to keep the car from understeering. I was trying different techniques to see what i liked best:

I think i need to drive it more aggressively, initiate later, keep the car higher in the revs take a wider line at full throttle through the first right turn to try and link the little straight without having to manji..obviously higher rear tire pressure and grippier front tires are needed...thoughts?

More speed and initiate with a lift off. Or ebrake
Your steering movements are way to jerky when initiating on the long straight looks like a
Bit of under steer there.

yes definitely under steering. only issue is I cant get much more speed, I was flat out on those runs, not a lot of run up to that corner. Initiate later for more speed?

Don't fiddle with the first turn leading Ito the straight. Gain more speed and follow the line you were
On. Use your speed and do a lift off. If your speed is at the limit of your tires your car will initiate easier using the feint motion you are currently using...depending on your set up you could also try a foot brake drift.
They are my favorite on track drifting and easy to do when your car is at its limits

Concentrate on drifting a race line and not try to look cool. Go fast it's easier to slide. Jerky movements slow you down!

It honestly looks like his only issue was Front Grip with those shitty tires.

He was a bit busy with the wheel but I can see it's a direct product of having no front grip, I know exactly how it is/feels to not have any front grip and constantly play with the wheel just to get the car to do what you want.

Nice clutch kicking to keep the rear wheels broken loose, I see some ppl struggle with that because they wait for it to bog down too much before they start kicking.

Your solution looks like better front tires and a little bit more pressure in the back.
Didn't look like you were struggling too much to keep them spinning but up press would def help.

Edit:
So funny that I haven't even posted any videos of my self lol but here I am giving advice.
I will say it's for a good reason, I have no track so you know what that means

Here is a video of some more of my runs. It was pretty difficult to see where the actual line of the track was considering the markers are low and black and no one was adjusting them after they had been hit and moved around.

I agree^ If you watch some videos from previous events where I had falken rt615k's on the front my steering inputs were much smoother, but these accelera's are complete junk, even brand new. I am heading back to this track in two weeks, I'm going to buy some new front tires- thinking about a pair of Kumho XS, it has great reviews and a low price tag.

xilovelsdx- looks good man, I feel you on the poorly marked lot courses, I hate that.

Hey guys, I just did an event this past weekend and wanted to post up the video to see if anyone had any tips for me.

Bit of a back story, I've been drifting about 4 years, only 2 on the track though. This was my first event with my sr20, all other events were with a KA, so the power is new to me. I drive conservatively because I don't have a trailer so I drive my car to the events, so I don't really bother with walltaps, crazy entries, ect, just trying to be consistent and improve slowly.

One thing I know though is I have trouble manji'ing the straight, it's not a power issue or anything, it's just my own mental block. I've never had enough power to accelerate out of a corner in any of my earlier times drifting, so coming out of a corner, upshifting to 3rd and continuing the drift is completely new to me. I know how it's done, it's just learning the timing and programming it into my subconcious so I can do it. At the very end of the video you can see I succeeded doing it once.

But, if anyone else sees anything else, let me know, and thanks for watching.

Only thing you can do is keep trying it out till your confident enough to go full speed and full angle.
It's like doing a 3rd gear entrance first time around.
Super sketchy but once you do it you can gauge how fast your going, how much angle you can have and how to keep at it.
