The risk always existed. Now there are other vaccines with lower risk for most people, but the FDA still allows use because the benefit outweighs the risk.

In other news, I lost an otherwise healthy member of my extended family to COVID. A strong, vital guy who wasn't vaccinated and died over the weekend.

The COVID vaccine may not stop infection or transmission, but it does reduce severity (both short-term and long-term) in those who are vaccinated as well as decreases the odds of infection. We don't hear about the people who were vaccinated, exposed, and who weren't infected.

The smallpox vaccine is about 95% effective in preventing infection but is also effective at reducing severity in those recently exposed. Most of us don't need the vaccine because the spread was reduced to the point that smallpox was all but stopped due to the vaccine's effectiveness in preventing infection.

Two polio vaccination doses are about 90% effective. Three are 99-100% effective.

Three diphtheria vaccine doses are 97% effective.

We can acknowledge that scientific precedent has been established and even so, is not infallible, or we can continue to rail against a vaccine that, to an outsider, appears to have reduced the transmission rate to one our society can at least function with.

We also can acknowledge that a single preventable death is a tragedy without that label being an overreaction. My family member who died wasn't anti-science, but he was incredibly political and the choice not to be vaccinated was a political choice and not one based on logic.

And Covid is far from over, it continues to thrive and it continues to mutate, people are still getting it, people are still suffering from long term symptoms. Whoever it was going to affect it affected. We are just choosing to live with the risk because the solution was not stopping the world.

I don't wear a mask in public anymore, I'm vaccinated and I've had covid once and worst it was for me was a bad headache. The worst it was for my parents was a bad headache, my father in law unfortunately it cost him his life.

I generally do not like people or like being in big crowds and especially if people are coughing up a lung. Covid or no Covid.

We want to point the finger and blame someone for a global pandemic but nobody wants to look in the mirror and say that I was willing to do my part to figure out how to navigate in a world where it may potentially be unsafe to be around other people and we continued to do whatever we wanted.

But then tried to hold people in power accountable for being human and doing the same thing also.

It's stupid smooth brain behavior.

Unless it's your profession being an epidemiologist or whatever I just don't see what your burning passion for uncovering the source of covid. How it helps, it's past tense now. It's done.

It exists, it's here, it's with us. Finding out the why will not prevent it occuring again, and maybe thats your thought process.

Thats because it *was* weaponized. Never in history has society quarantined the HEALTHY. There was outrage because:
- Landlords were told they could not evict a tenant for non payment of rent (still active in LA)
- People lost their jobs unless they take the experimental jab (and its continual updates)
- People who chose natural immunity were villainized as "dirty" and were "the problem"
- Business owners were forced to close or follow insane guidelines that other larger businesses did not need to comply with
- School closures and remote learning when the young are not at risk
- Patients missed necessary health care & treatments due to these same restrictions

Kudos to you if your experience of COVID, accurate or not, was a bad headache. We got it end of 2019, beginning of 2020 which took about 2 months to get rid of in our house. And we got it twice in 2022. Every one responds to it differently, regardless if you're jabbed or not. I would say you really should re-examine its impact on you, your friends and your family. Its effected us all differently, and so sum people up as smart or stupid for choosing different paths really shows your ignorance. Especially when so many "conspiracy theories" end up being pretty damn accurate.

You ever given much thought about 2023, 2024 and so on? What if they kept forcing you to run windows update and made boosters mandatory, would you be okay with that? Would you be okay with wearing a mask in say, 2025 or 2030? Have you given ANY of this much thought? What about protesting in the middle of the pandemic? That was allowed without any restrictions. What about immigrants coming into the country unvetted? You might want to think a little longer and harder on these topics instead of calling out nick or anyone else.

Maybe you feel some type of way about the wording of my response, it's an internet forum. I'm not discrediting anyones experience, nor am I dismissing what impact this had on my life and everyone elses. Especially based off of my experience.

Am I saying sucks to be you cause nothing bad happened to me? No. I quarrantined, I shut myself off from family and everyone for 2 years and had to show up to work (government contracting) and had to be around people who thought it was a sham, coming to work not wearing masks, coughing on people as a joke, I've seen people lose their jobs that didn't want to get vaccinated only to have them roll that policy back once things died down. I've seen friends businesses struggle, some shut down, etc.

It was a shit deal for america, but still today to TRY AND GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS. like it will have any impact for the sake of saying I told you so or I was right.
