I wish I had an update. There hasn't been much to do while waiting for the exhaust work to be done. It's going to Freed Engineering around the 8th of January. Then they will have it for two months to do the titanium header and exhaust as well as a custom radiator, catch can, PS/coolant reservoir and likely a driveshaft.

We did get all the under dash wiring and HVAC ducting back in with custom elbows modified on the heater core to clean up the coolant hoses in the bay. I hope to start routing the OEM headlight/relay harness which will be tucked in the bay on Sunday but will see if there is time. A custom cluster insert that flush mounts the Haltech IC7 is also on the way from Mako in Australia.

Have been focusing the downtime on my E63 AMG and added a tune, intakes, down/midpipes, black ash trim, billet/poly engine mounts, front lip and french inner lenses.

Big progress made today! The main hurdle was figuring out how to route the engine bay harness with all the relays and connectors for the lights, horns etc. After removing all unecessary wires/connectors, we cut a hole in the side of the kickpanel from behind the fenders which is perfect for getting everything to the lights. Will have to lengthen the entire harness by about a foot to do the other side but now almost no wires will be visible inside the bay other than the alt/starter and a few other engine component wires.

We also routed the throttle cable but I will order a new one now that it's all mocked up. Installed the driver side door seal as well.

The car is now ready to head north for the header, exhaust, radiator, oil catch can, PS and coolant reservoirs as well as a driveshaft then it will come back for final wiring, brake lines, rear brakes and fuel lines then the reassembly. It's pretty close now.

Not sure if you mentioned it previously, but where are you getting your fab work done "up north"?

Progress is nice as always.

Freed Engineering.

Got my custom cluster from Mako Motorsports which allows for flush mount of the Haltech IC7 display.

Got everything done so the car can head north for header, exhaust, radiator, catch can and reservoirs. Nismo short shifter is in along with the new throttle cable, the cleaned up pop up motors, the cluster surround and the rear brake line has been routed under the front frame rail. It will be gone for a few weeks then comes back to my house for the final work.

So in love with that NA setup. May have to call on you one day to build a sister motor to that one for an old rust heap of mine

Sure thing!

I am heading up to see the car tomorrow and discuss the stuff they will do next. I have ordered a RHD master cylinder to get the lines exiting on the other side allowing for more clearance. They also had the aluminum driveshaft made and installed it as well as making an A/N fitting for the power steering.

Final welding done. Springs clamps will be added to hold it all together. He asked me whether I wanted to keep the yellow cad hardware or swap to the Ti hardware he got for the project. I really wanted the hardware to match so he lightly heat treated it to turn gold and closely match. Perfect solution. Everything is important.

Beautiful! Is there some sort of a oring or gasket where the manifold and collector join? Or is it just a pressure fit?

That is incredible. I've never seen a manifold without a common flange on the head.

I would imagine the individual flanges and the slip fit to collector setup help to allow the titanium to flex/expand/contract as well. I know some people have questioned the choice of titanium for a header and rightfully so as it can crack. But it's all well supported, well made and won't be holding a turbo or being driven too hard or frequent so it should hold up just fine. I definitely trust the judgment of the guy doing the work too.

It's just a slip fit joint, some applications use a double-slip variant.

Rear section is almost done. He wanted to do raw Ti tips, I wanted some gold but they still didn't look right. Then he polished them with the gold which looked better but not quite right. Then he brushed them. Winner.

How did you remove the plug from the wiper cover and how are going to reinstall it ,is it a certain type of rivet or something ?

I drilled out the old rivots and put in new ones. I have been told standard rivots can leak water in but this car will rarely even get washed so probably not an issue. I thought I posted photos of the final assembly all back together.

Exhaust is done. He started on the radiator and swirl pot with pressure cap. He plans to make a similar PS reservoir for the other side/same location.
