KA KA24DE S14 distributor install help

As easy as it should be to install, why tf am I having trouble setting it on right?

I either install it where its too retard and I advance it max and its not at 20btdc. Or its installed too advance and I retard it max and sits close but not at 20btdc.

I follow the few diagrams out their online and tried every way possible, still no luck. I match up the pin/dowel to the groove on the shaft, doesn't start. I set it a tooth forward and backward and same results. I only get it running without lining the marks by just playing with it.

Yes i set it to tdc on #1 compressed cylinder.
Yes I should of marked everything with the old distributor on prior.
It doesn't help out that the rotor has 3 ways on sitting in the distributor, that's what also throws me off.

I got the distributor to where it's suppose to be!

The one detail that the few videos/guides that are on online to install the s14 distributor don't mention is:
The rotor's contact edge should be right underneath #1 spark plug, not center!

Manage to get this info from some guy on Facebook recently. Hope this will help with people that are still newly experienced doing stuff like this and forget to mark the position of the old distributor like i did
