RockAuto S13/S14 axle replacements experience

Hi all,

It's becoming harder and harder to find (replacement) parts for our cars here in Europe, so naturally I ventured out to see what the US of A had to offer. I had previously ordered a bunch of stuff from RockAuto for my Altezza, so I browsed the site for S-chassis parts and stumbled upon 3 different brands of CV axles, all very very cheap.

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...n,cv+axle,2288

Even with shipping and import fees a pair of these brand new axles would cost me under 230 USD, for which you can't even find a set of 30 year old used ones over here.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these three available brands, TRAKMOTIVE, GSP or FVP? Would be even better if someone who runs a bunch of power through them can chime in.

Thanks!

I have purchased the Trackmotive one before for my s14 and had no issues with it, but it was all stock.

Convert output stubs to use 350/370z axles and forget about the tripod junk of yore.

Hearsay is that the rock auto/autozone replacements are weaker than OEM. If you just have a street car they should be fine. If it's for drifting with anything more than stock horesepower, I would be cautious.

I put a trakmotive Axle in my 96' 240sx with a Infinity 3.54:1 differential, I think the 6-bolt kind. It's been around 3 or 4 years, perhaps 35,000 miles so far, 600rwhp no issues. Instead of the $500 special 300zx axle I used that trakmotive $50 version.

I use normal street tires though and its not a curvy-turney car, just a daily driver.

I've been running a Trackmotive axle on the passenger side for awhile now and its been holding up fine. A lot of my friends run cheap rock auto axles in their cars as well and none of us have had any issues. They seem to be decent replacement axles, I don't think you'll run into any problems.

FVP is made in Minneapolis/St. Paul and outsource. I've never any issues with any their parts for any car I had. hell i can even get parts cheaper if i have someone who works at FVP.

How did the Trakmotive axles work out for you? My OEM's are going out and I'm looking at a set of Trakmotives until I can sort out the 350z axle conversion on my s14.

Car is still being built over winter, so have not been able to test them. However, one of my friends ran only one of the GSP axles for a month until it started making noise again.

I ordered a set of GSP axles from rockauto for an s13 a few months ago. the axles had play and were very noisy right out of the box.

traded them for a 30 rack and went forward with the Z33 axle conversion.

I'd had gone through like 3-4 sets of I believe GSP Axles back in the day. Lifetime warranty at AutoZone. Literally run them and replace them every year.

Theres a few places you can send them out to get rebuilt. Id trust the oem one being rebuilt more than some reman one which may not even use oem stuff inside.

I got the Trakmotive axles from RockAuto and they have been fine at 340whp/320wtq with a few launches/burnouts so far
