SR O2 Sensor

What can happen if my o2 sensor wont screw into my turbo elbow all the way? Ive had to buy 2 different turbo elbows and im just going to eventually buy a new one once i have the money.. long story short i need to drive with it like this. the o2 sensor is probably about 50% screwed in. is that bad? what can happen?

The tip of the sensor should be completely in the flow of exhaust gases to properly read the mixture. With it partially threaded in you will probably have an exhaust leak and the car may not run as it should, probably running richer than normal.

Very similar to how people will space out the second o2 sensors on OBDII vehicles to trick their ECU into not throwing a code when the cats are removed. The spaced out o2 sensor only sees a limited amount of exhaust gasses letting the ECU think everything is okay.

If you have the Fat type 02 sensor this will be much easier and cheaper than a new elbow.

If you have a skinny sensor I THINK those are M14x1.5 but I could be wrong.

get a tap and die to clean the threads...will go in without issue...the thread in adapter will get stuck too...

not a big deal. you can unplug the sensor if you are worried about it. engine will run fine as long as you dont have any boost leaks.

This is completely accurate. The maf sensor does a great job by itself without closed loop.

I don't even run a narrowband in any of my engine swaps. I've tuned over a hundred cars with no narrowband.
They are actually more suited for sheep to drive the car, and not worry about the a/f ratio.

Do this, way cheaper than buying a new elbow and it'll be fixed right.

well i pulled out the o2 sensor and im just gonna tap it, now i noticed my threads on the o2 sensor are bad also lmao.. its the fat type aswell and the cheapest one i can find is like $50

cheaper than a sensor, and solid investment. Although if your sensor is old it's a good idea to spend the money on a new one.

you can use any narrowband you want. Even a 1-wire will work. Walk down the aisle at auto part store and price check them till you find an $8 or $12 unit and use it. Just match the signal wire to the signal wire and it will work.

They're less than $35 on Rockauto. Since it's fat type, you can get the S14 or Z32 one. Only difference is the length of wire. S14 is 12" of wire, Z32 is 22" of wire. Both are plug and play.

had a question about this to as i also need an 02 sensor, someone was telling me a 300zx TT 02 sensor works as well is that true? I have a E5 ECU

A Z32 is the chassis code for a 300ZX, so it's the same part I referenced above.
