OEM 89.5 mm pistons ka24de?

Hi all, I?ve recently looked inside my block and it?s got scratches on the walls in each cylinder. Ka24de?s are very rare in my country and there?s no way I can get a spare block, so I?m thinking of boring it out to 89.5 mm. The problem is I can?t seem to find any options for 89.5 mm pistons beside forged aftermarket ones, like cp/wiseco etc which are quite expensive. Are there oem 89.5 mm pistons like for rb series engines? If so, what are the part numbers? Can I stick any other pistons there by any chance? What are my options?

If u cant afford aftermarket pistons, you shouldnt be building, machining an engine. Do it right the first time.

I get your point, but I just don?t see a reason to go with forged internals yet. However if there?s no other option, I will.

Check rock auto, last I did they had standard size pistons available for the DE.

So... you're going to take the block apart a second time and do forged internals later on? Would really be cheaper and worth your time to just do it right the first time for your end goals on the car.

Yeah, maybe I?ll go forged, definitely considering that route. I?ve just found out about the condition of the block, so still weighing out my options. A stock sr20 would be about 1300$ with harness and ecu, so when the forged pistons alone for KA cost about half that, makes you think.

A clapped out redtop would have definitely been cheaper than my KA-T but..



Wiseco 9.0:1 pistons, 89.5mm, Manley H beam rods, balanced rotating assy, 264/264 cams and a Borg Warner S257 Sx-e w/ .82 A/R housing. This is a mild tune on 93 octane pump gas. I have about $700 in machine work and $2500ish in parts including megasquirt ECU and white bunny clutch.

I happen to be a bit biased toward KA-Ts, over SRs though both are old tech nowdays. Sure to get flamed but I don't think much about an SR. If I were going to swap it'd be a naturally aspirated LS or RB25DET.

^price on setups is hard to use to judge on with swaps... u could put those numbers down with and sr for the same price and not open the motor up. Just really depends on part prices, new and used...

Power under the curve. Peak #s are cool but it's the broad powerband and gobs of torque I appreciate.

Yeah, I?m not bashing a KA in any way, if I was living in states I?d happily run something like you do. It?s just that there?s 0 aftermarket support for them where I live and parts are non existent. SRs and RBs are quite common though. For 3500$ you could get an rb25det neo + a strong five speed manual + all the bits and pieces to install it and you could have some cash left. So it?s all relative. I do love a KA and will happily stick with it if it makes sense financially.
