s13 s13 tranny swap question

Alright so i almost got all the things i need for my 5 speed swap, so far i got

-5 Speed Transmission
-Transmission Mount
-Transmission Cross Member Bracket
-Used Clutch and Pressure Plate
-Pressure Plate Bolts
-Flywheel
-Flywheel Bolts
-Engine Mid Plate "Dust Shield"
-Brake Pedal
-5-Speed ECU
-5-Speed Lower Harness
-Steel Clutch Hard Line .
-Used Slave Cylinder
-Clutch Master Cylinder
-Clutch Hose
-Shifter
-shift boot

so i was talking to a general mechanic that i know and he told me that i was going to have to get a different radiatior as well. Is that true??

also i currently have the HUD digital cluster on my whip. im i going to need to change that to to regular gauges? and will a sohc ECU work on a dohc?

thanks alot

No, auto radiator has a built in tranny cooler is my guess why he said that, But you dont need to get a new one, just undo the lines for the tranny coming off of it and it will work perfect, Also no the SOHC will not work on the DOHC, but if you cant find a DOHC 5 speed ECU your auto ECU will work just fine.

no sohc on a dual cam will work properly. Gauge cluster you could actually just swap out your tach for a dual cam tach. The speedo will work fine.

as for your radiator just drain out the tranny cooler section. if you want you could turn that into a oil cooler.

Also you do not need the 5 speed lower harness on the s13 because the only things you need to wire up are the reverse lights and your speed sensor.

check out the Auto to 5 speed swap in archive and faq section.

I was going to say clutch pedal.

For driveshaft you should get a Driveshaft Shop driveshaft since most of the used ones have broken center carrier bearing.

You need to jumper the inhibitor switch harness next to the battery so you can start the car.

You reuse the auto lower harness and hook up reverse and speed to the manual sensors.

No other sensor is needed on the lower harness.

you do NOT need the 5 speed trans harness. it will just give you a headache. your speedo wont work and a bunch of bull. leave your auto harness in there and just hook up your speedo for instant work-age . then pm me if you want and ill walk you thru the wiring of your reverse lights and other things.

OP you need to search there are countless threads and walkthroughs on doing this

having said that

you dont neeed to swap the brake pedal just the the brake pedal to size.

Also you need to make sure you swap out the Pilot bearing for a Manual tranny one.

for the reverse lights all you have to do is solder some wire onto the leads on the sensor and splice it into the wires for the lights. just find the color of the wires and ul be set.

The lower harness is confusing as hell. Nissan made like 2 dozen different variations of KA lower harnesses.

The best thing is to reuse your auto lower harness. Eliminate what's not needed. Hardwire in the VSS and reverse switch into your auto harness.

Trying to make the manual lower harness work with the auto body harness is a nightmare.

no. u will have to pinpoint them. you only need like 3 or 4 wires. i had a little more sinse im a vert with cruise control, but u will need to keep the green and black wire(they are reverse lights. doesnt matter which way you hook them up, as long as they are attached to each of the reverse switch thing, itll work. the speed sensor just plugs in. no wiring. i dont think theres any other wires. have you already cut the harness to get it to crank?. if not then there is a two plug harness(i think one is brown, the other wires is a tad bit smaller i think. its been a while). cut it off the tranny and sauder or twist the two wires together and just plug them back in.
