Oh come on ! I want variety in this thread. Show us what you use when you fix shit then come back and post again when you buy some new goodies. There is absolutely no reason to be embarrassed or ashamed of the tools that make you money or just get the job done.

no worries! my dad used basic hand tools from 70s till around 08, I'm sure he still barely uses his air compressor as it was purchased primarily for paint! I didn't know how nice air/electric were until around '10, had been using hand tools since 91ish due to dad saying those types of tools just ruin things!

I wouldn't pay more for something a little more quality at HF. I'm generally only going there so I don't cut one of my expensive tools in half or bend them at a weird angle. Granted at this point, my basket of cut wrenches are mainly Craftsman from back in the day when someone who gave a shit made them. Rarely do I walk into HF unless I'm in the area and desperate. I don't shame those who do go there, though. It's a fine line.

My first 8 years of owning a 240 the only tools I had I carried in a large metal ammo can.

You really don't need much to work on a 240. You know this is true because most people don't actually fix anything unless a 10MM, a hammer and some loctite fixes it within five minutes.

I think I took my first S13 down to a bare chassis with nothing more than a pipe and a master mechanic tool kit from Craftsman that was under $200. Nowadays, you can do it a little easier with some electric tools but they're probably one of the most user friendly chassis around. I have all sorts of fancy shit but honestly, most of it isn't necessity - just convenient.

lol agreed...could probably rebuild the engine/trans with that too! I think most Japanese cars are basically the same...10,12,14,16,17,19,24 socket and wrench and theres not really much you cant do...I too basically had the same craftsman kit w/ a few extra tools my dad gave me like a line wrench, hammer, breaker bar and some screwdrivers...like stated before basically had that when I started working on diesels and could have done ok but was trying to be more efficient and obviously blowing thousands on tools does that for you!

You can even take apart most engines with that shit. It's amazing how far even vehicles have come. This is why I stick with my old 90's shit box Nissans.

BluePoint roll cart filled with BluePoint [SnapOn] and BluePower [Cornwell] tools. I have gotten to the point where this is permanent to the trailer and the track. It never comes out unless I'm setting up somewhere where it needs to come out of the trailer. Off brand shit that's just as good for the most part that I'm not entirely worried if I lose something because the replacement is next to nothing. I think I have an old Craftsman bag or something if I am going to help someone else and just need to bring a few things.

I turned an old highschool/BMX riding backpack into my tool bag for junkyard runs. Chest & waist straps help distribute the weight. It was WAY better that carrying or dollying around a steel box. Man I miss those old Salvageyard Expeditions days.

lol I def also have AAA platinum! That shit is SO worth the $75 a year, if only so I don't have to go to the DMV

OTHERWISE, I prefer to be able to fix most any and everything myself.
this is also my "going to the racetrack" kit, so its already kinda pre-loaded and ready to go, and its separate from my garage toolkit, so I don't have to deal with making a huge mess every time I come back from the track.

my daily is fairly low, so if I ever had to change a tire on the side of the road, the standard scissor jack aint gonna help much.

those definitely make life easier lol...even a simple tranny jack makes a difference! I personally use one to two floor jacks or floor jack and cherry picker to get engines/trans down...

I personally run a tranny jack for most of the shit like that but I'm also usually pulling straight out with a cherry picker and a unboltable tubular front.

Many of the vehicles I work on suck ass as far as engine removal lol. Having a table with holes to configure the jig would be so sweet. Did a Bentley W12 recently & that was a mofo. I feel like had I had this table would have been butter.

The motor does not move it will go back in exactly how you removed it.
