Engine done this week! The intake is advanced 1.5 degrees and the exhaust, 2 degrees for cam degree to spec. He said there is plenty of tolerance for far more aggressive settings on both.
Added some decals to the R30 and painted the upper windshield trim, mirrors and rear spoiler. |

The z31 n/a fully built RB28 is finally done after almost 2 years. Just needs oil pan and rear main seal bolts to wrap up as they were somehow lost or misplaced.

The Z31 is back in action. There were some unsightly gaps to the body with the 87-89 side skirts on the 86 and the skirts themselves had small notches in the edge so my body guy trimmed them and welded in some metal which he shaped to close the gaps and retain the OE door gapping.

Not much news on the Z31. The head studs pulled the threads out of the block on 2 holes at 95 of 105 ft lbs so machinist is talking it all apart and using timeserts on all the holes.
The R30 is live on stanceworks though! http://www.stanceworks.com/2019/08/b...issan-skyline/ |

The engine is finally done after timeserts were installed in all the stud holes. The issue ended up almost doubling my expected budget and in the end, I should have started with an RB30 or 26 block but the dissasembly was the same price no matter what and the block was already bored, decked with all the custom specs on the piston being used from the head/block so....
I won't be able to pick it up until October but the car likely won't be ready to come home anyway. Either way, it's really close to being back so I can get to work on putting it back together. |

Front end is getting together and he is going above and beyond to get the gaps and surfaces all perfect.
The plan for the rear bumper was to put a filler piece in where the plywood is now but I feel like it makes the rear horizontal surface look too tall. I suppose if the bevel radius was perfectly carried around, it might not be too bad though. I was thinking drop that entire top section down to where it was cut making sure the top is flat and then build up the top under the tail lights/license plate recess and where the bumper meets the quarter to make sure that body line is mirrored. Thoughts? |

That is one shitty body line/quarter/bumper transition. Not sure what I would do. Its like the quarter needs to be extended and wrapped around under the tail lights, but that would be a ton of metal work and money.

More work on front with the wrap around trim delete between the fenders/hood and bumper. The JDM lip is apparently not very good and will need some work to be perfect.

The front bumper has the ugly bulging trim strips bonded and shaved along with the emblem hole. Now he just has to make the front spoiler fit better and finish the rear bumper and it's ready for paint!
Also, Watanabe R type's showed up 1.5 months early and fitment is dead on. Barely any clearance for the calipers. |

Hard to believe the engine has taken almost 2 years! It's finally home now though. Also, more photos of the 30 with the Watanabe's. I put some 3mm spacers on because the 7's I got were too much. I suppose 5 would be perfect.

so stoked for you man. I've been waiting to see that engine come home for ages, I can't imagine how excited you are to finally have it back. You're doing an awesome build for the z31 community. Definitely an inspiration my own 87 z31 turbo. Keep up the hard work man, I cannot wait for the NA RB to screaming down the road.

Filler piece added to the top of the rear bumper to clean up all the gaps and make the lines look like factory. Now just the front spoiler is all that's left before it gets ready to go into the paint booth!!!!! |

Greatly appreciate the kind words, everyone!
There had been a few cracks in the primer so he took a bunch of areas back down to metal on the main body. Rear bumper progressing well and he took the liberty of sanding the inner doors down to bare metal which I didn't even ask! He is trying to make my car the ultimate showcase of his abilities and I am happy to be a rolling billboard for his work! |
