Rear Tow Hook Install

I noticed on the 95 240SX that there is only one tow hook on the rear of the car when I went to trailer it. I would like to add another one to the driver's side, but am afraid it would scrape the muffler if I put it in the same location as what is currently on the driver's side. Since the car is used only for track events, a race extraction hook thru rear bumper should work fine for trailering and pulling it out if it goes off track. Anyone tackled this job successfully? Where is the best and easiest place to mount it? Where did you buy your hook? Thanks for any advice.

couldn't you just get any tow hook, and bolt it to the steel bumper behind the bumper cover?

A google search for tow hook brings up a lot of options.

i know this is an EXTREMELY old thread, but it was never really answered so I just wanted to make an easy "how to" in response...

i bought a pretty generic tow hook off of eBay. it seems like most of them have the same hole patterns (probably for a honda... the photo below mentions so) but there's no straight forward way to attach it to our rears on the s14 240sx. so here's what i did to attach the new tow hook to the old oem one:

first, eyeball measure where you want the tow hook to sit. i wanted it pretty close to the rear bumper, but not touching it. you also don't want it so low that it scrapes the ground.

now, remove the original tow hook on the back. (its on the passenger side),held in with 2 14mm nuts and 2 14mm bolts.

drill 2 holes in to the middle of the oem tow hook and attach the new ricer hook to it. now bolt your combination oem and rice hook up to the original location and voila!

mines not 100% done (cordless drill needs a battery charge) but this will give you a good idea of what I'm doing.

as far as the strength of this install method, I feel 100% confident in being able to tow the car this way. i think the only weak link would be the quality of the ebay tow hook.

buy a tie down rod from your local hard ware store. They have a loop in the end and the length is long enough to be welded or bolted on the chassis. And they're actual iron, not like aluminum like the picture above.

These aluminum ones can't really fail so why try to get something iron, which is ass ugly and rusts in about 5 seconds?

tracks prefer, or in some cases REQUIRE that you have a visible tow hook on the front and rear of your car (the OEM hook is NOT visible from outside of the car, it behind the bumper and if you have aftermarket, can't see it). i don't care if it was made for a Honda, it works and it was $24

you're still a dumbass. first, i acknowledged the thread was old, but someone already created the right thread, just no good responses.

second, the photo you showed of the 240 tow hook was for the front. if you weren't such a fuck up you may have realized that, and this thread is about rear tow hooks.

Whoa, hold on there buddy tow hooks a fucking tow hook. Don't matter if it's in the front or in the back, at the rate your going you might have both just like the Honda kids. So if there's a thread on wheels/tires (which we do) and you had a question on your front left wheel/tire you mean to tell me you'd make a thread specifically on "my front left wheel/tire (insert problem here)" ha!

I didn't make the thread. Someone else did. No one gave a good response, so I did. I don't think that shock tower mount tow hook will work on the rear... its a different process idiot. But if you'd like to try this method on your hood you're more than welcome to. Let me know how it goes.

The dude bumping made an non-invasive mod. Your towhook suggestion requires cutting up your hood; not everyone wants that.

Moreover, a towhook out the hood looks more ricey than one below the bumper. To me, you're the fanboi repping that shit.

its just a hook that allows a tow truck to "hook" on to your car to easily tow it. most race tracks require modified cars to have an easily accessible toe hook on the front of the car, as well as one on the rear. the factory tow hook on my car is obscured by the bumper... thus not easily accessible.

the aftermarket tow hook is lower and sticks out, and can be accessed quickly in case the car needs to be towed off the track.

lol that's great. The way he was swinging his dick I was expecting him to have a baller ass ride. Then I clicked his little website and 98% of his mods are low baller fanboi products and numerous drift videos. Pretty much the definition of what he's insulting. Freshen up the interior with that old pillow case shift boot.
