curious how much better the 3090 performs in 4k sans dlss, especially the higher clocked aib cards. read somewhere the evga kingpin might get a 360 radiator which is kinda insane..
damn amd has been terribly complacent with enthusiast gpus in the past few years. have my fingers crossed they’ll redeem themselves with big navi in Oct |

No fucking way AMD brings anything close to the 3080.
My guess is they will somewhat matchup to the 2080ti. Maybe exceed by 3%.

I know. I know. Trying really really hard to be positive and open minded but maybe it's just denial.
If they can exceed the 2080ti at 700-800 its still a step forward. If its a cheaper 500 navi card that matches the 2080ti would be really happy for them. Anything better than the ancient 1080ti would be a victory. Rooting for them anyways. Competition is always good. |

Wow, 20% faster than 3080. 3090 damn tempting. Can't wait to see what the higher end OC aib cards can do on 8k. glad its not just a titan replacement. |

Like the Titans used to be compared to the XX80 cards. I'm calling it now within 8 months 3080ti for $999 within 5% of the 3090 in gaming performance.

Yea. It is a great workstation card for 1000 less than the usual titan. Plus all the hardcore enthusiasts who want the best of the best.
Bet it is going to be the same thing when RDNA2 launches on 10/28.

Yes, but the 3090 will be available again shortly. The more expensive units with added features should eventually stabilize as being in stock soon. Most will just opt for the Founders or something at the lower end just to obtain it. I planned to get one of the upper tiered units for not only the simulator but also some design work and desktop gaming. Hopefully they're back in stock shortly as predicted.

oh I dont disagree. doesnt make a lot of sense to buy anything right now even if there werent supply issues. I dont plan to get anything anytime soon and dont mind holding on to my 1080ti for another year. a highly oc kingpin 3090 does get my interest for sure.
I think some buyers who jumped on the 3080 now might regret not waiting for the model with higher vram |

4 more days until Ryzen 4. Who else is pumped??
I am waiting to see what they come out with to decide on my new build. The 4790K is good and all but it is majorly showing its age.

What are you comparing the Ryzen to? I haven't done much research in comparison to the 3000-series. I am a sheep and just plan to flex and get the 3090 and be good for a couple years in my stupid gaming PC for the sim/other silly tasks.

Agreed on 10600k, however I want to "future proof" a bit and get more cores.
On Ryzen 4 it depends. Im looking at the 4700X. If at 1440p it can be within 5-7% of the 10700K then that is what I will go with.

Gents
I am a COLOSSAL idiot. Built the current machine in 2017. I just realized now that my ram was only running at 1333mhz instead of 1866. The gaming gains are rather noticeable sidenote: I am still calling BS till I see hard proof. The fact they only teased three games IMO means the big navi is doa. edit: this seems more like it https://www.techpowerup.com/273150/a...omparable-gpus

I'm with said reviewer much of this will come down to price, value and supply issues (Nvidia and/or samsung did botch). this is great news as finally amd is giving nvidia competition with enthusiast grade gpu and this not some vega or radeon 7 gpu that only amd fanboys rally behind. If this were not to happen, you might see Nvidia get complacent again. wish I could find that article that I read Nvidia might be going switching back to TSMC after disappointing yields from Samsung. More speculation maybe but sounds plausible to me; https://www.thefpsreview.com/2020/10...-7-nm-process/ Might be worthwhile to hold on to that 1080ti for another year. |

Eh. The 3080 legitimately is a huge performance increase from a 1080ti.
Seeing as the 3070 will be similar and/or faster than a 2080ti the 1080ti will basically become a midrange card.

3080 is an improvement for sure over the 1080ti. That being said my 1080ti still holding out pretty well on widescreen 3440x1440 monitor with higher settings and getting around 50fps with a lot of games still. Not quite convinced 3080/3090 and maybe big navi quite there with 4k gaming around 100fps.
if nvidia goes tsmc 7nm in '21 or '22 optimistic there will be good gains. also curious to wait out ryzen 5900x and rocket lake performance in a couple of months. I think it's more interesting to wait out at least until summer of next year. |

Rocket lake is a weird one. Rumored to be 10nm or 14nm but slot into existing mobo. I personally think it will end up being like the 4770K vs the 4790K. Same thing but a bit more refined. Once benchmarks are out for ryzen, I will decide if I am doing team red or team blue build.

Not right now. My monitor is 27" ips and looks great. It suits my tastes for now.
