s13 Project 2Low

My first build thread, but my second 240. My previous s13 went through minor changes prior to me leaving for Basic Training. When I joined the Army, I left it in the hands of KeeganXW, one of my best friends and our local 240 expert.

Some pics of the old 240, aka "peppermint"

Once Keegles got a hold of her.

The motor after he was done.

I've been here in Afghanistan for about 4 months now, and I've been dreaming of building a car since before I left. I had an S2000 in mind, but why betray the Hatch Bro's when I don't have to? So the hunt for a decent hatch began. Came upon this.

Needed a starter, had some leaking oil issues, the driver side quarter panel blows, but the interior was all there. Everything else was going to change anyway.

As soon as we decided to pick up this car for 1300, I started ordering parts.

And then..

PBM Coilovers, XXR 535'S.

A little stretch 215/45 on a 17x9.75

And then after some coilover cranking, some 3mm spacers, babam.

She's not too pretty, but I promise she'll get there.

The cheap ebay exhaust is going, and being replaced by Isis blasts, D1 style kit in the mail along with NRG FRP seats, Cipher auto purple 5 point harnesses, NRG harness bar, a killer shift knob, NRG wheel, quick release, and short hub. JDM DCC ready to be installed.

Shout out to my brother from another mother, Keegan, and the Drifwips crew for doing SO much for me so I can have a baller 240 to cruise with them when I get home from this Deployment. More updates soon.

Thanks guys.

The shift knob is a Still Hood shift knob. They have a neat selection, and even Still Hood Grip Royal steering wheels!

Some more stuff I ordered arrived. I keep getting jerked around by USPS delivering the short hub. They "leave a notice" instead of leaving it at the Leasing Office of the apartment complex. Other stuff gets delivered just fine, but this one thing I keep having issues with.

ISIS Blasts

PBM Skid plate

Roof spoiler, harness bar, and some random stuff I ordered from Just Stance/Stance Nation. Gotta love having a good bro that let's you send HUGE packages to his house! Not to mention all the work he puts into it haha.

I went through local paint guy who's done really good work and has a fetish for Nissans. He's a veteran and was going to give me 30% off everything. But instead, he decided 30% off everything, AND he's going to help out with some of the minor dents and a little bit of body filling that needs to be done. Great guy! The color I chose is Aubergine Purple, the bottom one in this picture.

Paint starts as soon as the kit arrives and transportation is arranged!

It's so odd building a car while I'm in Afghanistan. I haven't driven her yet, or even seen her in person, but I love it so much.

Really like that choice in colour. I've also got a black and purple type combo going on with my hatch. Keep it going.

Thanks man. Got any pics of it?

The kit arrived today. Cheap little thing, since it's just going to get broken/cracked with how low the car is. More pics soon.

The internet here in Afghanistan just got worse. It was already shitty, now it takes like 10 minutes to open my own build thread.

Anyway, Keegan's been working on getting the kit to fit. As with most kits, takes a little bit of "assembly". Same issues everyone else has with the D1 style kit.

I believe the issue comes from an incline of complaints about the bumpers being too weak and breaking easily. So, to counter the weakness of their product they probably just started pouring more fiberglass onto their original design and now the kits don't fit like the originally did. Y'know, when they'd break putting them on. Ah well. You get what you pay for, and I'm happy with it. Not so sure Keegan is feeling the same way.

Super JDM TYTE mounting hardware.. purchased at your local hardware store. I love it.

That's all for now. Paint's coming up reeeaall soon, I'll probably post a picture or two of the car without real paint on it, since I like the "work in progress" look. Next update should be a car with paint though.

That's my old exhaust, I sold It to some kid about a year ago.. I guess I know what happened to his car now hah. BTW Its not an ebay exhaust, that's an HKS Carbon-Ti Canister welded to some fencepost. The canister alone is worth more than those Isis pipes brand new.

Thanks for all the support guys, I can't wait for the build to progress either.

Also, good to know about the Exhaust, Geoff. It's still goin haha. Personally don't like the way it looks. Bumped into an issue getting the Blasts to fit into the Kitted bumper but no doubt Keegles will figure something out.

NOOOO you know my name O.o too much information has been revealed. **sinks back into the depths of zilvia**

BTW I totally agree that exhaust was a pos... It never fit right I just thought the canister was cool lol. I think I sold it for like $200 and bought an ebay exhaust for $100 shipped that tucks above my frame.

I take it that is an AIT kit? Please post in the aero/fender fitment thread how it all fit/what modifications you had to make in detail if you can!

Looks like the front bumper fits pretty well. I'm looking forward to seeing this painted!

Just a quick update to muh thread.

Things have kind of veered off course, but for good reasons. While debating whether or not to paint the car prior to the swap, we decided not to. The paint will still be the same color, but will be done once the SR is dropped in.

I chose an S13 Blacktop SR, bone stock. I went through SR20Store, but Marco was all out of Blacktops, so he referred me to JDM of Miami, where I made my purchase. SR is in the mail now.

Out with the KA.

Eww.

And here's how she's sitting right now. Got some PBM spacers to unfuck the sunken battleship, but waiting to put those on for now.

She looks cute next to R8's, doesn't she haha.

Toothless (Left) and Peppermint (Right) have a crush on each other haha.

That's all the updates for now on the car. Can't wait for the engine bay clean up and SR drop in.

And here's a little fun from Afghanistan. Nothing drifts like a deere.

No particular updates, no. Not many images honestly, if at all. I just got back from stan-land and I'm back in Germany waiting to move on to better places. The SR is still out of the car and the car's still unpainted. The shitty weather and other projects have Keegles a bit busy right now. But all the parts that were ordered FOR the SR are bolted on. Interior is getting worked on as well, but no other than that.

Thanks for the love, Gents. I'll be with my baby here in about 12 days, then some more progress will happen.

To answer your question for sure, not at all. When PBMs are maxxed out the frame touches the ground. It's what they're famous for. Along with shitty ride quality to match.

Warning: Huge pictures because iPhones are dumb and so am I.

What's goin on guys. Long time overdue for this update but nothing I can do about being a shitty person lol.

To answer a few questions first:

The wheels to not naturally fit under the chassis of this beautiful machine. In the front I'm running 10mm of spacer, and have the mount for my coilover flipped upside down to induce positive camber, while maxxing out the top camber adjustment. This gives me a 0.00 reading on an alignment rack. The reason for this is because without the car completely slammed the fuck out, the wheel rubs on the coilover. Perhaps running these 17x9.75 +20's with coilovers other than PBMs will work, however, for me it does not. The rear quarters have been hammered out, and all fenders are rolled all the way around mildly.

The kit was purchased on Ebay. It fit horribly. It cracks if you look at it wrong. At the time of purchase I paid 350$ shipped and I'm happy with what I got.

The car has come a long way since when I came home from Germany. Lots of very little fixes here and there, however, the sr itself has been stout. It's been 8 months now since I put it on the road. It made the journey from Dallas, Tx to Columbus, Ga and I drive the car about 40-50 miles everyday. Often times I find myself beating the fuck out of it on the highway without really worrying. I'm very impressed with the overrall turnout of this 240.

I've come to a few points where I wanted to sell it for very little problems. I had no tail lights or cluster lights for about a week. After ripping the entire harness apart, came to find out one of my soldering points was bad and had about a micrometer of solder touching another wire somehow.

I've got the car set at 10psi right now, basically just dailying the car everyday.

Enough of the bullshit, heres some pictures
