Brake pad choice

Hey hoping you all could share your caliper, rotor, and brake pad setup.

I have wilwood calipers upfront with 350z rotors and st43 pads

The rear are z32 calipers and rotor. Trying to decide on a pad now.

I do hpde events on street tires and its not daily driven

I'm a fan of Carbotech pads. Non-corrosive as opposed to the Hawks and they bite really well. I run them on my camaro and can tell a big difference in initial bite and fade resistance compared to the stock ferrodo units. I ran the stock setup at Daytona (Intl course) because I wasn't concerned about fade/overheating issues, but changed to a ZL-1/CTS-V front caliper/2-piece disk and the XP-10's all around when I ran Road Atlanta and Roebling. I gained a huge amount of surface area over the SS brakes so it's not a completely analogous comparison but I won't go back. Friend I tracked with was running XP-12s on his S-2000 and convinced me after a ride along. He was running TTC class I believe when he got out of it and moved to Dubai for work.

As for the S14;
Z32 calipers are at powder coating at the moment but I'm planning to run the 350z Brembo rotors up front and Z32s in rear, stainless lines, ATE-typ 200 fluid, with Z32 calipers all around and 1521s for street, swapping to XP-10s and 2 piece front rotors for track use. SPL has some nice front tension rods with cooling plates. Debating that or outright NACA ducting for cooling but that should complete my HPDE setup on the 240.

They've got Auto-X compounds as well. But I think the XP-10/12 are the sweet spot for HPDE stuff.

go get some Winmax.

good fluid is every bit as important as good brake pads, if you're on a track.

Motul has some good shit available.

That's my next set of pads I think. Been running DTC-60s for a while now, no complaints at all, but figured might as well try new things.

I've been running carbotech's for about 6 years now.... 300zx all around with XP12's front and XP10 Rear on Direzza Starspecs.....

Great initial bite and modulation....

I've since moved up to Wilwood FSL6's and STI rears with 2 Piece Girodisc..... Still running XP12's and XP10s..... TBH I haven't ran them yet, but I think its a good pairing.

ST43s are amazing for endurance racing because they last forever, but they are not without their faults:
  • They can squeal like crazy if they are not hot enough. It took me a long time to realize why they were so noisy and block the brake ducting when the pads are new. They would only stop squealing around 30-40 hours in..
  • Their release is not great.. mainly only noticeable racing in the wet. If they lock you almost have to completely come off of the pedal to get them to unlock. I've heard of this throwing off ABS in some cars.

My main comparison is Hawk Blues, which feel good and have better release characteristics but go away too fast, and have a more corrosive dust. ST43s seem OK when they are cold, so I'm sure they can be driven on the street but due to noise I would only use them for track.

Thanks for the feedback. I street drive to and from the track and the DTC-60s seem pretty content to do that.

Prob just stick to them. Getting good life out of them at probably 6-7 track days per set (obviously I'm not endurance racing).

Carbotech, is similar along the lines of Performance Friction. Carbotech also makes GLOC pads as well....

They are very good.

Bout to run 350z track front brakes (the whole setup w/ Brembo calipers. Not JUST the rotors....) w/ the 300zx rears.
Puts 240sx bias almost dead nuts between ABS vs. non-ABS.

Will dial in from there via pad compounds. Looking at the Hawk HP Plus and Hawk Street/Race pads specifically.

I run HP-10 on Z32 calipers. They have a good bite but are hard to modulate I will be trying something else next time.

DTC 70 out front on the WIlwood 6 pots/350Z rotor and whatever rockauto special on Z32 calipers/rotors out back. Trackday car. Love them, but have to swap out to some street pads to combat dust and noise

Wilwood pads suck all around.
May try Carbotech next. Or G+. The wilwood shape is so prolific, the world is my oyster in terms of pad selection.
