Unfortunately, I ran into a slight issue with my engine build. I realized that since my block was for a head with hydraulic lifters, it would create an issue with overfilling the head with oil so it's at the machinist getting the head pulled back off to block off the rear oil feed and having the front one stepped down a tiny bit. Shame this came to light so late. Sucks that this happened but better now than when in the car. Could have been catastrophic too! Luckily the head and bottom end can remain assembled and just has to have the head removed. Ordered a new HG just in case too.

My brackets finally shipped from Japan too so they should be here in a week or so. The engine will be back from the machinist this weekend.

Got the engine brackets and the engine itself is ready for pickup!

While awaiting the install, some new photos I took of the R30. And a dyno video.

Also, throwing in some photos of the daily since it's pretty much done now. Just need a winch but that is on hold while I finish the Z.

All my intake parts, vaccum rail, water necks and wiper motor housing have been restored and holy $hit! He also removed the bosses off the top of the vacuum rail that the stock harness case mounted too since everything will be tucked. Then he re-textured. All aluminum was vapor blasted and coated with corrosion inhibitor, all re-plated hardware, OEM sticker and factory paint/QC marks. It's incredible!

First photo is how they looked when I got them. And remember, the ITB's were bored to 48mm and the intake manifold was port matched to the ITB's and head work.

what company's doing the restoration on the small parts like the throttle bodies and what's the cost for those services? Also, what is the black stuff around the throttle body plates?

Black stuff is sealer. Big problem is when people try and clean up Rb26 throttle bodies, they wipe all this away and then it never runs right afterwards.

This refresh is so proper

Remade in the USA did all the restoration but EFI hardware in Australia did the boring and re-building of the ITB's along with the throttle seal paint before Remade restored the outer housings and re-plated all the hardware.

That's sealant for the throttle blade that every kid removes from their throttle body when they "clean" it and then it has a vacuum leak.

Got a lot of work done but didn't have enough time to get it in the car today. Swapped out all the front incorrect hardware with the proper fasteners, modified the front heater hose port to go straight back instead of out, swapped the clutch mechanism in the trans from pull type to push type, drilled and tapped for new slave cylinder location, drilled the plug out for the rear sump dipstick tube, installed the pilot bushing, flywheel and clutch along with the transmission. We have decided to put the crossmember on the engine and then put everything in from the bottom.

Turns out the NA 300zx crossmember doesn't work I thought I checked the part numbers and they were the same with NA 300 and a ZR. I have found a full ZR drivetrain in Japan that I am trying to buy though and then will have my guys there strip all the parts I want off and trash the engine/trans etc.

We did install all of the accessories and only the starter is left. It looks so good! Coffee table worthy.

Got an entire 200zr drivetrain in Japan. Having the crossmember, oil pan, engine/trans mounts, valve covers and ecu shipped over and scrapping the rest. Should be here in 2 weeks, will have it all powdercoated and will sell everything but the crossmember.

Interesting, I figured the zr drivetrain would be something people in the states would want to buy.

Unfortunately not many people would want an rb20 in unknown condition especially with an automatic transmission. I might have been able to sell it but unlikely for even what it cost to ship the engine here anyway.

Back in the early 2000s i always thought doing a 200ZR swap in a Z31 would be be awesome, only to find out it was kind of gutless from the factory.

What camera / len(s) have you been using? all the pics you have posted have been great.

Yes, in stock form, the RB20 isn't that exciting. But they can be modified to be quite impressive.

Thanks! Canon 6D mostly with a 50mm 1.4.

Btw, my turbo self destructed a week ago. Total destruction. The bad news is that I need to focus on the Z31 so the R30 will be down for a bit. The good news is that the turbo was a really old Garrett and I still made 283/316 while it was on the way out so with a new turbo, I should spool faster and make more power. Looking at a Borg EFR most likely.

I also found all the cast iron pieces and puzzled it back together. Looks like none of it fell into the oil drain line/pan but I will spray some carb cleaner down the drain line and drain the oil then do a change and drain that too before I start the car again. I found the broken shaft with the nut still atttached in the air filter and no metal in the intercooler.

No idea what could have caused that level of damage. Obviously the bearings and seals went out but to have the center cast section explode is crazy. I guess lack of oil flow to the turbo itself when the seal gave out. I was experiencing some smoke at WOT before it happened but the last time I drove the car, I was getting on it while hitting an exit ramp, heard a loud bang and then smoke just poured out of the exhaust like 007. As soon as I slowed down, it poured out of the intake too so I knew the seals were gone.

Got the wiper motor cover and fasteners back from plating. Going to look so good in the bay. I may start restoring R32 GT-R wiper motors to sell. Last photo is before the restoration. The body was vapor blasted, the backing plate and motor cylinder were powdercoated and the cover/all hardware was yellow cad plated like it was when new. I also cleaned up the plug and wires and will start the reassembly today.

The guy who does my vapor blasting sends stuff out to be plated. Remade in the USA is his company. He does GT-R parts restoration.
