Halp. KA24E no oil pressure to head
1990 Ka24e the oil light came on and off so I checked the level and it was slightly low I thought no problem, added half a quart and it was fine. Next day the valves are sh*tting themselves with no oil to the head. Oil level still ok. Figured it may have been the gasket in the timing cover so I went ahead replaced the chain, cam gear, crank gear, tensioner, 2 guides, 2 gaskets in the timing cover, oil pump for good measure.
When I checked the chain guides there was a small crack in the plastic and a small piece was lodged behind the timing chain. I got that out and it looks like there were no other loose pieces missing so no need to drop the oil pan. Started up, no oil in the head at all. I'm planning on dropping the pan to check the oil pickup tomorrow even though I'm 99.999999% sure there is nothing sitting in there or blocking the screen.. so any other thoughts? I'm thinking of getting a pressure gauge for the oil sending unit to check that as well. Any help is appreciated

Yes a slight dent in the very bottom of the pan from the previous owner riding so low on the coils but that has never affected it when he had or when I got the car almost 7 months ago. Yes the oil light is on. It flickered the first day this happened, I added oil and it went away and came back then finally stayed on and that's when I noticed no oil in the head.
Silicone was on the timing cover and used around the water pump and thermostat housing.. I don't think that would make it through the pickup screen but I guess it's worth the hassle to check

Could it be the sensor itself? I've had instances where my car will throw a code that's obviously wrong and it turns out the sensor went haywire and was reporting bad information.

There is NO OIL in the head. The sensor does not matter at this point.. Valve cover off and car started up and there is no oil shooting anywhere, lifters are very noisy because of the oil starvation

This could be your problem. It's either being blocked from reaching the head or it isn't being pushed to the head. Really the only 2 ways that oil could be restricted to the block.

Before you go diving into that, i'd trying and hook up and oil pressure gauge if you have a friend that can let you borrow one, and see what pressure looks like. ON second thought, you may just want to pull the pan, running an engine with low oil PSI is sketchy. |

This. Get the pan off. Check if the pickup is clogged. If its not then your pump may need to be replaced. If it is, then your pump still may need to be replaced from the excess stress.

Oil pan is off, the pickup tube and screen was clean as a whistle. There were maybe two or three 1mm plastic shards from bits of the timing guide that got filed off but nothing majorly wrong. There is also a new oil pump.. maybe I'll exchange the oil pump and try another one.

Take the oil pump to a machine shop or try a new one.
Also make sure there aren't any irregular holes in the screen. Also if you didnt watch all your oil come out, i would run it through a screen to see if there is more debris. Because i doubt you took off the timing cover/front cover and looked at the condition of the guides? |

and its sprayed on the chain by small sprayers, i learned this when i took a hose and pressurized all the ports on my block to clean it out.. so i mean it can only really be a hand full of things makeing this happen... the pump is bad, or theres a clog, or its not picking up the oil in the first place.. did you remove the pickup at all? maybe the little gasket that goes on it is bad and its sucking air through there and not picking up oil? was the peice of plastic you found a direct match from the broken guide? a peice of plastic would be a perfect thing to get lodged in a port idk.. im in for the results though :/ |

Just turned 103k on the single cam. I have been looking into 'jdmengineworld' as they are the closest to me that seems to be reputable for an SR motor.
