Question Sr20det with z33(350z) mass air flow aensor

So i know z32 mafs are like the big upgrade for sr20s. Was just wondering if anyone has used the z33 maf? Would it work(obviously would need a tune) and would it even be a viable upgrade?

Just figures its new technology.

Anyones thoughts?

Technically it could be used if the tune is adjusted for it. People have been using vr38 skyline MAFS on other cars for a while now.

You aren't going to gain anything with a mafs swap other than more headroom for air flow than the stock mafs has. If the stock mafs is holding you back from tuning for more power then you'll want a mafs with higher flow capability. The mafs alone won't make the engine make more power.

For the guys who are using the PFC, you can use it if you switch the maf calibrated for the Z33-z34 and the R35. they same part numbers. yes you can use them and its it been down for awhile now.

Gain as in more head room(voltage fluxs) compared to z32

But was already told to keep the z32 maf

Kind of. All nissan MAFS output 0 to 5 volts across their flow capacity. 5v at the max airflow it's calibrated to measure. Also, the voltage output is not linear in relation to the air flowing through the meter, instead is exponential as the flow increases. Technically the sr20 mafs has a higher resolution across those 5 volts, in comparison to a mafs that can read 2 to 3 times more air flow across that same range of 5 volts.

But TLDR, yes a higher flow rated MAFS has more headroom before it reaches that maximum 5v output. Though it won't be as accurate at lower cfm's.

based on my initial conversations with martin from enthalpy the maf isn't the limiting factor for HP

You want the smallest maf you can possibly get away with if using the car to drive normally on the street type of setting where low rpm(low flow rate) resolution is important for drivability and economy.

In racing you want to eliminate the maf completely to free up intake pathing and remove obstruction, & potentially small pieces of plastic and potentially leaky areas from the plumbing, thus simplifying the setup.

For sr20 engines below 500whp on the street a Z32 maf is ideal, good enough resolution for normal driving and high enough potential power output scenario, using PFC I am on the final line row #20 approaching 450rwhp (500-520bhp) with that maf
