Anyways, anybody have any pictures where they tubbed the backside toward the firewall? Seen it done before, A friend is considering it.

Ayyyye yes I have some rot on the inside of my fenders on the firewall side and am looking for viable options to repair. Passengers side is small enough I can patch it but drivers side is in a weird spot where it meets with a couple seams and the grommet hole where the harness comes through.

whats the largest wheel size you can fit up front before it starts to rub... 18 x 9.5?

i guess it also depends on the tires size also...

Here's my bay, all work done by my grandpa and I in my garage, I love how it turned out. We used a trailer fender and sheet metal, then after welding everything in I smoothed everything before a friend of mine painted it white with gold foil in the clear.

How viable is it to do tub fenders while the engine is still in the car on my DD. the battery tray area rusted out and is progressing up the wheel well so I was curious to see what the experts have to say.

Biggest problem I see would be getting the chassis harness out of the way as well as having to remove the entire front end.

hmm, with mine I didn't move the chassis harness, the tubs or just sorta built around it so fuse box is still there, kinda defeats the purpose of tubs, but I did it for the same reason as you, cuz the PO let the battery explode, you gotta smooth em out with body filler

shitty oily pic from my old phone

I don't think it would be too tough, you would make a mess of metal dust on your engine though and be careful not to melt electrical or fuel lines. Also be sure to disconnect your ecu while welding to reduce the chance of it getting fried. The main problem I see with it is it just being inconvenient, I stood/sat where my engine would've been 80% of the time. Not saying I had to but that's where it was easiest and most comfortable in my opinion.

Thank you all for your insight. What kind of welder did you all use? I'm sure you have to play the game of spot welding a little and letting it cool before repeating again to keep the sheet metal from expanding, right?

I used a 110V Campbell Hausfeld Mig welder, it's not ideal but for the thin sheet steel it definitely gets the job done. I welded a fair amount at a time and had no problems with warping, I ran into my hand melting from the radiating heat or cramping from the position I was in before it damaged the metal structure. Be sure to tack weld everything in before welding long lines or else things will shift on you. If it's all tacked in it shouldn't be able to move.

racing tub

I am planing on building my second time attack S13. A problem with the first race car was the slick tire rubbing under the tower during compression. If I remember the rubbing correctly, none of the tubs in this thread would solve this. Could that be right? It was not the steering angle that was the problem, just tire size and lowering + bumps..

Anyone have a good source for 18ga or thinner trailer fenders, I'm finding a lot of 16ga, but I would prefer 18 or 20. These guys make them http://www.badgercomponents.com/prod...ailer-fenders/ I have contacted them, but they're a manufacturer, won't sell direct and I'm not finding them with their recommended resellers.

The whole battery tray was rusted up into the wheel well. I decided not to make them huge so I could retain some engine bay room.
