Bumping for e85.

I'm going to be staying rubber fuel hose on my setup, doing a flex fuel tune with a GM ethanol sensor wired to my AEM EMS 2.

Walbro 255 in pump, Integrated Engineering Bosch 044 surge tank.

Is the 2005 GMC Savanna fuel filter the best option for 3/8" clamp/line as mentioned in a previous post? Something about needing a filter with stainless media, not a paper one like a z32 filter.

Also, anybody found a good place to buy a drum for storing e85? Closest pump for me is almost 2 hours away, so i'll be having to take a drum and cans there and back to fill it whenever I run out.

Slightly off topic; can a surge tank be mounted either below or above the fuel tank? I haven't found a good place to mount it under the car, leaving me having to mount it in the trunk area. Only qualm with that is the possibility of needing a rear firewall installed...

^ I've actually been using an Aeromotive 40 Micron for the past year and a half with zero problems. ALso push fit/push-lock hose with a few small sections of good old regular autozone rubber hose with no problems so far. I honestly believe that in dryer climates such as yours and mine, you won't be needing the crazy filtration that some on the east coast or up north may need.. but either way I'm still swapping to a 10 Micron Filter for this season. I've also stored E85 for up to 4-6 weeks without any problems over this season. All in 5 Gallon fuel jugs.

Yeah I'm glad about the area I live in, don't have all those moisture worries like the Midwest and north guys have.

Just wanted to get some feedback as I'm still in the process of learning.

Current set up:

9:0:1 CR
1000cc ID(-6 return / feed)
3076r
Aeromotive intank 340lph

Want to run E85 - only want to push around 500whp+ is that possible?

Thanks

You Will probably need to turn your base fuel pressure up

In the process of swapping my 14 to e85. I have historically run a 255 in tank to a bosch 044 in-line. I am going to a Walbro 450 in tank to parallel 044s. What is the deal with wiring up a walbro 450 in tank, how have you guys gone about it? I see that the 450 has a nice sealed connector... but is this necessary or can I just snip the wires and crimp like I have done with the 255s???

Wondering since walbro went to such effort to seal up their electrical connections, is special alcohol resistant wire needed or have you guys got away with solder and heat shrink?

Thanks

You will need to up the fuel pressure to 4 bar.

Or you could just get ID 1600CC and be at 500whp.

You are limited with 1000cc, those should max out a little over 400whp, unless you up the fuel pressure.

I just recommend ID 1600cc for the 500whp range.

I think he means ID 1700's but you can also do ID 1300's

According to Martin of Enthalpy he can push a little over 500 on E85 and ID1000's but you will need to run higher fuel pressure and have the pump and lines to support it.

1000cc injectors on E85 should be good for around 450.

edit- I am sure people can push it further than that, but I mean- 450 wheel on a SR is pretty nasty

Yes, 1,700cc thanks

But I think Injector DYnamics is developing a 1,600cc version.

They don't even make them , Bosch does.

I seen this a while back.
Not sure if they are considered 1,700cc though.

That's from 5 years ago. The ID 1700's are the same injector FIC has been selling for a few years now as FIC 1650's.

We were talking about the SR20. Is this even possible? That's like 100 hp over how much airflow that turbo can provide. I know E85 provides gains from the advanced timing but this seems a bit much.

I call bs, with my gt2871r and stock long block I made over 340 at 18psi or so.
My little t28 I think put down 298 a year before that.

Sorry to change the subject guys but I'm looking for someone to point me in the right direction on some things if possible. I Have a 1990 240sx. Just got my LSX built and I will be running on E85. It's NA and is around 620 H.P. at the crank so we are thinking around 500 at the wheels. I was wondering what size fuel pump would be the best for me. I was looking at the Aem 340LPH but would hate to find out it's not enough. And also a good company to get my fuel lines and filter from. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!

Lets keep this thread going!

I am in search for a fuel filter at the moment, I think a 40 micron ss mesh filter would be good, any one running one in replacement for the stock fuel filter?

Also, how important is running a filter before the fuel pump??? Any one running one of these on their set up?

The AEM pump will likely do it as your pressure will be pretty low given its not a boosted setup.

That said, I'd still go with a Walbro 450 E85 pump. It's almost the same price, but a much better pump than the old "drop in" fitment size.

that is what i've been using. i believe its an earls from summit.
need to ditch that stock filter as the e85 can dissolve the glue and what not that used with paper filters.

No you'll be fine. That's more than enough injector for 360hp.
