Clutch fan identification
Hi, I am currently in the process of putting together a SR swapped 91? Hatch and am having an issue with fitting the clutch fan. I purchased the car in pieces from my buddy who has been piecing it together since December so my knowledge on the acquisition of the parts is kinda slim. He mentioned to me that he was unsure if the clutch fan was actually for the SR and now that I am putting it together I am finding this same thing he did. The clutch fan itself will bolt up to the water pump pulley however the holes do not line up on the fan blades. From looking at new units online mine looks identical to them,I cannot find any identifying markings on the fan assembly and was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of if it perhaps is just from a different Nissan motor? I should note that I am using the Gk-tech fan which boasts more cooling abilities, I can only assume that it is made to the same specs to utilize the OE clutch fan without modification so I don?t think that is my issue. I have photos I took this morning and can measure the unit once I get home if needed!
Forgive me if the information has been posted before I looked but couldn't find anything so I made my own thread. Last edited by dattmubino; 08-20-2024 at 11:34 AM.. Reason: Trying to get photos to work |

My best guess is that its a rb/z32 clutch. Take a look at rockauto's 240sx fan clutches, they might give mounting bolt dimensions to the fan and compare that with 300zx. I know the 240sx fan has a smaller mounting bolt diameter than rb/300zx's. I also know the mount between the clutch and the pully on rb/300zx is longer like yours vs the KA24's. I'm totally unfamiliar with sr20 setups.

slot the holes, on the fan. That's what I would do if I could not identify it. I would measure the distance from center to center on holes on the clutch to the fan to determine distance measured. than make the slots. will work. if you're not competent in slotting it, take it to a machine shop. if not than find a proper clutch.

you can run a KA fan clutch on a SR - in other words, buy a new 240SX replacement fan clutch from Rockauto if you want to be safe.
slotting the fan holes work, but you also have to make sure the fan remains centered so there are no rotational issues. you can't run a SR fan clutch on a KA https://www.facebook.com/groups/2727...5073291914418/

I have the same experience. I ordered the GMB one off RockAuto, but it looks completely different compared to the product pictures and doesn't fit.
