eBay, Yahoo Auctions, buyee, parts Japan SAFE ?? Radioactive??

Last week I stopped by an old JDM importer in the LA area, asked if he could import a few parts. He said that he stopped importing since the Fukushima disaster due to his warehouse being affected by the radiation it was exposed to. He had to abandon all his parts and property.

My question:

For anyone with knowledge and purchased parts from Japan via online platforms like eBay, yahoo auctions, buyee, or private sellers,

Does anyone know if Japan checks for radioactivity on items shipped?

Other than some areas that were evacuated during the disaster there's never really been any risk to the public. I remember the Korean news making a big deal about finding radioisotopes drifting over but again that was in the days after, not a decade after. Nothing coming out of other cities was ever a risk. Everyone else has been importing stuff all along.

The Japanese generally leave abandoned cars, buildings, etc. alone so no risk that someone looted that area for your parts either.

He probably read some warning or saw some "inspected for radiation" label and took it as meaning his specific shipments were irradiated. Like the way some people panic when they see those California Prop 65 stickers.

They're actually really strict about radiation at US ports to make sure you're not trying to smuggle nuclear material or something.

for parts there is no issue.

for things like CarVX it will show whether a vehicle was in a contaminated prefecture, as the Japanese government started doing this for goods that are being exported.
